Hi guys.
Just going to scope out a Hurricane nearby.
Anything special on this machine to look out for?
I hear ramps are hens-teethish on this - and obviously will be trying to spot any plastics & such that are gone / pf wear etc..
Any ideas on ball-park figures.? (Advertised at 1K)
(I realise it's all down to condition - this is a bit of a project, but basically working AFAIK)
The pictures are rubbish (par for the course it seems) - but it seems worth a punt maybe..

just see how you feel when you view it. if you feel like your getting a good deal. i.e. nice playfield no acid damage ect then go for it but if you dont like it or its in a garden shed (damp) then have a goof think before dropping the cash, theres always another machine.. as tempting as it it when your front of one.

I played this a lot when it was a new game in the arcades.

It is not a fancied title. As a good working game maybe it is 1300.

Watch out for all the game specific parts. Moving translite. Topper. Ferris wheels. Ramps. Plastics.

Thanks all. 20 years in a thankfully dry garage. Lots of work needed, all rubber stuff perished, some signs of initial battery damage but not too far gone. Translite lifting and lots TLC required - left a low offer (650) with him to talk over with family - we'll see. Thanks all for your help.

Just as much work to renovate a TAF as a Hurricane. Hurricane parts are much harder to find.

Then at the end of it, virtually noone on here would buy the Hurricane off you.

Gotta agree with @The seeker here

Thanks guys. Appreciate the collective wisdom. Yes, happy either way honestly. 650 is fair I reckon, would fix up OK I think, but don't have much room to actually put it! We'll see - if you hear more Hurricane based Qs you'll know he went for it. It's pretty untouched (he'd never lifted pf or translite!) Thanks all..

Well, I was straight with him, highlighting the faults I saw, and passed on the 'playable condition' valuation of 1300.
I revised offer to 600 and thought he'd keep looking for more.

No - he was in hurry so - it's mine without haggle and most of it's pretty intact. (Topper, translite wheel etc). Several cracked ramp bases and the best lesson of not using oil/grease I've seen yet - the first ferris wheel had it's axle totally solid due to someone helpfully lubing it at some point. Luckily this motor's OK - as are most parts.

Machine is never going to be mint, but everything works OK.
Jobs done: battery has been moved, ramps reinforced, few wire gates made, drivebelt fitted and top of playfield is stripped with a few more repairs / deep clean to go.
Some damage on playfield makes me wonder if someone has a better one.. Alternatively I can patch it up I reckon..

This is the latest machine I own ('91) so enjoying seeing the evolution and impressed with this era Williams.

So - there are a few plastics I could replace (I'll post pics of which shortly).
I reckon on keeping it non led - or.. while it's all bare, should I put some in - esp. below the various toys as it's not the easiest stripdown to get to them?
(Is it worth lessening the load on the GI circuit anyway?)

Appreciate all the help initially - and will post my plastic wants shortly.
Thought I'd update you guys - and welcome any insights / comments / suggestions.

Many thanks!

These are the two plastics needed. The larger is pretty hidden and I could rebuild if needed - the left kicker is more sad and more obvious, so would be good to replace. Cheers.

I will doubtless get shot. But the WPC 89 games offer the best build quality and toys in the history of Pinball IMHO.

I spent many happy lunchtime hours playing Hurricane in about 1992. The university of London bar always had two Pinball machines in it. Usually a Data East plus a Williams. Bad Cats, Checkpoint, Turtles, DE Simpsons, Hurricane, LW3, Phantom ... in my day.

Hurricane gets dissed, but it took more of my money than any of the others in there.

That's a good price for a DMD game so a great buy.

I have a used set of slingshot plastics, the right one is a bit buckled and has a small crack at bottom hole but the left one is intact

Great stuff.. I had an epic session with complete topside strip down - which included flattening all the plastics as they were all buckled.. The left slingshot is definitely the worst on the play field. Interested!
