Hi All,
Have a WPC89 pinball Hurricane.....

Switch on and powers up up no errors...
Set to free play but when the start switch is pressed a couple of seconds later it goes into the Solenoid Test Mode over and over.

Fitted New Mpu board, Power board.
Changed game Rom U6 and AsIc chip U9
Minimum connections on power board just to get the game running and lights on the Playfield...

Scratching my Head on this problem...
Anyone had anything similar....

Is it one of the coin switches being 'pressed' or shorted when the start button is pressed? Could be a short in the loom.

Open the door and press a door switch repeatedly to see if you get the same result.

Opened the door pressing the door switch repeately had no effect.
Do you mean the service switches...tried those just went into tests.
Not sure where the coin switches are...

Yeah I meant coin door switches. Something else then.

Can you post a vid? When you say solenoid test mode do you mean just the root standard test menu or it performs a ball search?

It's not in actual test mode, the solenoid's actuate. Is this what is termed as a ball search.
It does this on switch on when it says testing.

This is what I thought. Might be early WPC os doesn't display "pinball missing" on the display.

However it definitely should not do this during the power up "TESTING" checks. Only after you press start.

Can you confirm either way?

So on start up during testing the solenoid's exercise, then stop.
Everything is fine until the start switch is pressed then solenoid's exercise repeatedly.

How many balls does the game need? it looks like it is only seeing 2 balls in the trough so does a ball search by firing solenoids. If you have 3 balls in the game then it is the trough switch and if you only have two balls in the game, add a third.

Is this correct,1+2 closed 3open.

Your switch test photo shows 2 balls in the trough and a ball in the shooter lane, so the machine should think it's got all 3 balls.

I've just taken a ball out of my Hurricane and it gives the message "PINBALL MISSING". Switch test then shows 1+2 closed, 3 open (but obviously nothing in shooter lane).

If I switch the machine on with 2 balls in the trough and 1 in the shooter lane, it fires a few solenoids but works fine when I press start.

Ok, get the same thing when shooter lane ball removed.

Game should run with two balls..very strange effect.
It has three balls, will check the trough switches.

So on start up during testing the solenoid's exercise, then stop.

This shouldn't happen. There should never be any outputs triggered during the booting "TESTING" phase.

It feels like the power driver board is being enabled when it shouldn't be, and it's reading data off the bus which is supposed to be for the sound board for example.

Given that you've changed out the MPU, Power board, ROM and ASIC, I'd start to suspect ribbon cables.

On MPU, check J211 is seated correctly and unplug all the others. See if that stops the solenoid firing at first powerup.

Unplugged 202 and 201,solenoid's still fire.
Will see if I can find another j211 ribbon to try.

Purchased a new short ribbon cable from Mpu to Power Board and the solenoids have
Stopped exercising on start up and at the moment also when start switch is pressed.

Thanks so much for all your help....

Will soak test over the next few days.👍
