Hey,

Random one. Has anyone ever thought of or has had done a modded Skull for Hook Data East?

The existing one looks.... dated?

I think a modern plastic cast would look awesome.

Cheers,

I've always liked the Hook skulls as they're all painted uniquely. The #1 mod for Hook is for sure the Chad pinball code update.

I was never going to mod mine but several years later it has, Chad code, invisiglass, Pin2DMD (my own colouring!), lego Hook keyring, mirror blades (over art blades), retro refurbs alt translite...
Not got but would really like pinsound as reportedly the alt movie sound track rocks.

Anyways, good to see another owner on here  🏴‍☠️

Yeah there's definatley some Hook lovers on here (myself inc) but it's a marmite game. Depends what you look for in a pin, janky rules but crazy good music and high octane multiball. Chad code fixes many of the code issues though.

Enjoy it, you're custodian of a classic now.

P.s it was originally going to be theme park design but Data East couldn't get the license, so it was adapted for one they did have.

I've ordered the ROM chips with his code along with a LED kit.

Welp.. when fitting new LEDs the playfield came off the rails... It ended up hitting the PCB board in the button of the playfield.

The drop target mech also took a whack but only required a small adjustment to get it back in shape.

The power connector on the board didn't fair so well and it lost a pin in the process. Where do I get a new head from?

Right flipper as a result feels like a limp noodle.
Nothing else seems broken.

Any help appreciated.

We've all done that one. Are you not a little concerned about the Tip36c? That'll be where your flipper woes are. The power connector hasn't lost a pin, that's the key (hence the arrow) the connector pins are just bent out of shape and easy to bend back

You’re not the first person to do that on a data east mate don’t worry. You can easily replace those pins. Pinball mania or pinball heaven will sort you out

I hadn't even noticed it!

It looks snapped. Thanks looks like a new chip job. I'll try and order a new one just in case.

You've unleashed the wrath of the incandescent gods by installing LEDs

As you're working on the SS flipper board now I'd recommend replacing the fuse holders at the same time, they're unreliable and will play up at some time.

On my Hook one of the rails was completely loose which doesn't help with the pf which can be very tight on these. On mine the pf cables are long enough that it can be completely lifted out and leant on the side of the cab to work inside.

I swear I only did the inserts  .. though i may do the back box too, the hum from this thing is crazy loud. Is that the bulbs? Its sounds like a florescent tube on steroids!

The hum is probably the transformer. You might get it quieter by tightening up the long bolts holding the laminates together, but it's most likely not gonna help. It's just old. Don't break it, they're hard to find!

Btw just do some before and after photos of the backbox if you're gonna LED it. Buyers' fog can bias your opinion! :-P

Ahhh the good old DE/Sega dropping the playfield in the cab trick :D Have you truly owned one of these games until you've done that!

Your damage doesn't look too bad other than the transistor. I dropped my Baywatch playfield and it destroyed that board, scrapped half the components off into the bottom of the cab as it went and I had to get a replacement

OMG that's gutting.

Its my fault honestly I was impaitient to get everything done and kept working till way too late. I just over tugged it the playfield and it went straight over...

Wife just stood there in shock while i'm going 'HELP ME!'

The mech for the drop target got bashed but amazingly it went back into shape after a simple pry.

I have a stuck target issue on the cannons since day 1 (prior to this mis hap) 3 of the 4 were working 'OK' but still stuck a bit. I cleaned them up. No matter what I try though the first target seems to be a bit of a bugger to get working...

Scott I've got at least one TIP36C lying around. If you like you can bring your board round to get the old one out and a new one put in. Shame you didn't have your playfield accident yesterday and we could have done it when you here then
