Bad connection at the battery holder terminals / at the board ?

Even when it's plugged in it won't remember so I don't think it's anything to do with that unfortinatly

Seems to me a poor contact on one or more of the batteries in the holder on the cpu board. Check there’s no corrosion at all. Remove the cpu if necessary and examine it closely on the bench. This is assuming it’s not got a remote battery holder but the above still applies if it has. Ken

I agree with the Sgt. Batteries first, then is the battery holder connecting properly, then is the ram an issue.

But we are assuming this is an original WPC board and Party Zone.

Also there’s a blocking diode in circuit that allows battery voltage through to ram chip but blocks dc voltage coming back opposite way and trying to charge the batteries theses can fail, seems more likely it’s a connection issue.

Time to get the meter out. Test each battery voltage. Put the batteries in the holder then test the holder internally. Then test the holder externally. Once you have the correct voltages everywhere the problem ought to be solved. If not then you may have a board problem.
