Hi all
My sound has stopped working on my Mr/mrs Pacman machine it was all ok left machine on a little later and zilch no speech no sounds.

The Squark & Talk board seems to go through its boot sequence ok get the first flicker and then 5 flashes on the led but nothing after that.
If i press the test button i can hear some really strangulated sounds of it going through its test mode if i turn the volume to max but in game mode just hum from the speaker.
I'm at a total loss here in where to start any of you classic bally gurus help out here please.

Has it ever had all the caps replaced? doing this along with swapping out the 2 variable pots is always a good start

Hi Ruk thanks for the reply
All caps were replaced a couple of years ago the small pots I'm not sure a bit bizarŕe if both went together though.

What about the pot in the coin door? However, if the hum increases when you turn that clockwise, chances are that is fine. I think there is a link on the S&T board to remove this from circuit if in doubt.

If you can, test your voltage test points and inspect all the solder joints for fatigue fractures including all the pin header joints and connections.

Something else to try is while it's going through it's speech self test, gently press around the board to see if it changes in clarity.

It's a ballache.... but worth checking some of the straightforward stuff before swapping out components :hmm:

Tried this last evening reflowed the headers on the board this made no difference got the +12 and +5 volts furthur reading up last night need to double check the negitive volts at their respective test points.
The pot on the coin door is working ok. If you start a game you can sometimes just about hear, when at full volume the first speech call out"Slow Skill shot ahead" but thats it no sound fx or further call outs
So i assume its receiving interupts from the mpu but not processing them as it should.

Clean the legs on the tms chip and replace the ic sockets is probably your best bet.you can test the boards out of the cab with a jamma or atx power supply

I have removed the TMS chip and sanded the pins (have no sockets to hand) as suggested no difference I'm afraid when replaced
the -5v is present a TP4 any other ideas good people because I'm totally lost here

Hi Mr Splooter it's a game i would like to keep hold of was hoping that somebody at sometime had a similar scenario before sending it out Iwas reading last night@myPinballs and @Nedreud escapades in S&T boards a lot of it went over my head to be honest, just need someone who will be willing to have a look at it.

Yes i have new s&t boards available. There is a queue for them so if you do want one please get in touch so i can let you know latest lead times etc

Have you reseated the other socketed chips. I assume you have but nobody has mentioned it yet.

Hi Andy that was going to be my next step will try that tonight if i get a chance only reseated the TMS chip so far

I have removed,sanded/cleaned all socketed I/Cs pins, fault is still exactly the same unfortunately, now completely lost

you really need to bench test it out of the machine,if it then works, your problem lies within the wiring or voltage from the rectifier board

Your quite right Steve going to have to cobble something up from some old psu's. Have been scouring S&T on the net and may have a couple of ideas to try.

Can you post a video so we can here what is going on? If you've measured all the voltages ok then bench powering it up is unlikely to add anything.

Long shot i know, but have you tried turning the sound and speech pots from min to max a few times whilst powered off?

I have a video of the board booting up but site moans it's too large a file to upload:(

I have tried that on the board mounted pots no change @Arv

Will try and load it up to Facebook
and add link when i get home

Yeah it's not public. Must be friends only, can't see it either.
