Complete Gottlieb Genesis (1986)

Working on reinstalling some of the completed mechs this week. First in are the 4 Jet bumper mechs. Everything topside is brand new, everything underneath has been polished. Will hold off on the underside of the playfield pictures until everything is back in place.

Vari-Target polished, reinstalled and adjusted correctly. I love the simplicity of this mech

Drop target mech back in place with the new purple targets

Been a bit behind on keeping this shop log updated but been very busy quietly working away and she is almost, very nearly done and I'm so pleased with how this one is coming along

So I finally got round to cleaning/polishing the ramp saucer and kicker mechs and installing them.

All plastics and hardware cleaned/polished. Installed new decals on the drop target metal guide, the ramps and both kicking targets. Brand new ramps installed along with everything else. I'm not one for colour-bombing games but I had to go for pink in the bumpers as a tribute to the old pink ramps.

Flipper and cabinet switches cleaned and polished as well as the shooter rod. Coindoor removed, disassembled and mechs also polished. Still need to clean up the inside of the cab so will take more pictures soon. I also added a bit more card to the cardboard surround for the robot to give it a bit more support as it was all creased and bent, looks a lot better now (from the topside of the playfield anyway)

Still got a few bits here and there but she is playing nicely at the moment.
- I need to clean the rollover switches and gap them properly
- Investigate an occasional issue where the machine will boot up but then the display goes out, oddly it doesn't happen if I remove the bulb in the backbox.
- Investigate the tilt relay as it doesn't fire and the GI bulbs don't flick off/on when they're supposed to, they're on all the time
- I need to order a couple of 4ohm 7watt resistors for under the playfield to replace the blown ones for the left & right ramp flashers
- Install new t-molding around the backbox and clean up the outside of the cabinet

The gottlieb corner is looking well sexy! Looking forward to taking this one for a spin at the Essex meet.

After reassembling everything I realised I had left the showstopping robot in the bottom of the cabinet. The reveal of this always makes me chuckle as it really is proper naff... Thanks to @RudeDogg1 for giving the robot a lick of paint for me, certainly looks a lot better than Gottliebs paintjob did

@Vimtoman thank you 😊 I wasn't sure about the purple/pink to begin with but I'm warming to it now. The clear ramps are lovely though and were an absolutely perfect fit so I would definately recommend them to anyone that needs ramps reproduced

A little more progress firstly I couldn't find 4Ohm 7 Watt resistors anywhere so went for 4.7Ohms instead... Changed out the other resistors too while there, doing this brought both of the ramps back to life so they now flash for Multiball

Investigated the Tilt relay not firing which controls/flashes the GI. Replaced the diode as it was flakey and resoldered the lugs as one of the ends of the coil had broke so the GI now goes out and flashes as it should

Cleaned all of the cabinet wiring and cleaned inside the cab

And the finishing touch, some beautifully tacky 80's t-molding... I had to go for the gloss black with a chrome strip down the sides and just regular gloss black across the top

And folks I think she's complete! Will add some more detailed pictures with a better camera in a few days time!

The last issue I have to get to the bottom of is perhaps 1 out of 5 times I turn it on the game boots up and then the display goes out. Computer controlled lights and GI stay on, attract mode carries on as usual but no display. Removing the light bulb stops this from happening and the game boots fine every time... Do any of the System 80b experts have any ideas what could be causing this?

I see it from time to time on various sys 80bs I come across.
But not regular occurrence tho.
Being a gottlieb you can always repin some of the pins on the connector. But first just pass a fibre pencil over the connections

I did run a fiberglass erasor over all of the boards connectors, found it helped with a lot of intermittent problems but sadly not the boot issue

And she's done, will figure out the occasional boot issue another time... For now I want to enjoy this wonderful game! Here are bunch more pictures on a better camera. I hope you have enjoyed the story of this weird little gem and I look forward to taking it to Pinfest 2020!

Looks great :) you have done a great job on it :)
If it was mine just to confuse people I would put a piece of fried chicken in place of the robot for that wtf reaction

@Freespawn @Gonzo @stumblor @M4carp Thank you guys, very pleased with it. Hopefully it will delight others for years to come too (not sure if delight is the correct word actually thinking of the backglass) 😂

It's exactly that mate, we're mere custodians of these machines and you've preserved that for years to come.

What's not to like about a translite depicting a menage a trois between Einstein, Kate Bush & Peter Dinklage?

That honestly just made me laugh out loud 😂 the perfect ménage a trois truly does exist! 😂

Thanks again everyone for your kind comments, now on to the next game!
