Gorgar switch issue

Hi All.

We have a Gorgar with a weird fault. One switch in the matrix isn’t working. It’s switch 28 in the middle of the matrix, and everything after and before on the line is working. Both on the row and column. We’ve checked continuity through the switch, diode and checked that the wires attached to the switch good. The switch has open and closed continuity as it should but we just can’t get the switch to close.

Am I missing something really silly here - as the switch data lines are otherwise perfect. A fault here would surely affect the other switches in the line.

The software is directly downloaded from planetarypinball, and is a “all in one” game chip to replace the three originals. The game plays faultlessly otherwise. The boards are original. All switches work in test. Other than the C rollover (28).

Help!

Thank you

could be a dry solder joint on the header pins of the board???

I don’t think it can be Steve - as the other switches in those rows and columns are working fine…..

Unfortunately, I’m doing this remotely so that’s a little more difficult. However, if every other switch on that row and that line is working, then wouldn’t that mean those are ok?

What I was thinking, has it been wired up correctly , piggy back on something else or a break inside the wire , but need to know if it a board is ok or not first

I think if any wires were out of place, the switches that are working wouldn’t correspond to the correct positions on switch test.

the easy way to test would be swap the wires with another switch and see if the fault moves with it

So far, I’ve ruled out the board being the issue - as both row and column and sending and receiving signals on other switch closures. Of course, I haven’t been able to physically check the switches direct on the board as I’m trying to do this remotely.

The guy has already swapped the full switch, and I’m starting to wonder if there’s a software issue here …..

Guy has swapped the full switch for the one next to it. The original Switch works perfectly in the new position. So rules out the switch too.

So switch is fine and other switches on the same row and column work. Is it in the middle of the chain, at the end or jumped off other switches? Do you have a photo? Given the physical switch works in a different location it must be the cabling somehow. Have you tested shorting the row and column at the CPU to see if the switch responds? That will exclude software (which is highly unlikely).

if you get the owner to take a picture of the switch wiring, then I could compare it with mine
