GI issues are becoming the bane of my life!!

First there is the issue with Demo Man which I've given up on because everything seems to check out(to the limit of my knowledge) and now my Data East Star Wars. Again, one small section of it is out and I'm struggling to troubleshoot :(

Where specifically is the problem Phill?

Data East GI is in 4 fused sections.

If it's a whole section then it is the connector or fuse or feed between the PPB and power supply

If it's only part of a section then it is a break in the wiring

I've done continuity tests and everything seems fine. Had the damn boards in and out 3 to 4 times. Continuity-wise, it all seems ok. Connectors look good. You think it's worth re-flowing the solder?

Measure the voltage through from source with power on. If it's say the green : green/white circuit , place the probes on AC across the greens at the power board. Assuming you have a reading, leave one probe where it is, and progress through the circuit along just one of the wires until you reach a lamp, then progress through the other wire leaving the first probe wherever it ended up. Doubt reflowing blindly will be productive.

I had a section out on my SW and found the problem at J5 on the PPB board. It had a wire in the wrong slot if that helps.

Once had a strange GI issue on a SStiff.
Ended up being the Asic holder not quite making contact with the Asic,on one line only - which turned out to be the GI control for my knackered circuit.
Kneading the Asic holder cured it,and it was fine for years after that.

If ya wanna chat on phone , no prob, but best to do after seven,as ya get an hour phone call for free then-will need it with me!!

So that's why I lose an hour of my life every time you phone me. :)

Right, it's the middle section. Purple Purple/White

There are four in the lower middle section. One of them has a couple of purple/White and on the other side, two purple and two plain white. The plain whites go to the other three so in effect, linking them. But the other three don't have purple/white??

So it's like 4 have a positive but 3 don't have a negative? Remember, the whites just link all the positives.

Have you measured for volts as suggested above? Start at the power board on the purples and check it's producing volts out. Then check again where it goes on then out of the ppb.

Yeah I've got power on the board. Then once it goes to a connector underneath the playfield, it seems to lose the power. One side of the connector is fine, the other isn't. Dodgy connector?

What are those connectors called? They clip together. Two prongs slide into the other and there is a plastic clip holding them together.
