The m/c looking good after col corrected my rt side slingshot incorrect wiring.However a few games after this the m/c cut out on slam/tilt and this has happened on a number of occasions since O n examination the tilt mechanism has only a down rod and no plumb bob.On activating the down rod the m/c displays danger on first making the circuit and the n warning on second rod touching the metal ring.A strage one I Any one got a clue what to do nextI might take my pit lamp out there and test the m/c for ch4 what next Yours billy butler.

Slam tilt, is different from tilt.

Tilt will end the ball you're playing with after a warning.

Slam tilt will end the game and reset to game over mode, with no warning and usually annoying sounds

Tilt is from the plumb bob.

Slam tilt is located behind the coin door and effectively resets the machine if someone bangs the front door. Check that is is not finely set and/or damaged.

Cheers pinball mania I have checked the slam /tilt switch and it works o.k. gap is fine.On playing a few games I noticed that slam /tilt came on after the left side slingshot swithes were activated.but only infrequently and say 2 out of 10 activations.Obviously the fault lies there somehow.Whilst i am on here where can i get a plumb bob assembly as the getaway assembly is missing..Cheers billy butler.

Left sling is on the same row. Check diodes/cables, you may also have a second slam tilt switch in the cabinet. You may want to disconnect them to see what happens, think they are routed through the coin board J3.

Only one slam /tilt switch on m/c a and how they are wired up so ind this is ok.I have checked all row and colomn switches and all in order.I have changed diodes on both sling shot switches even though they tested ok.The m/c likes to go slam /tilt after the left side sling shot switch is activated not every time but usually to end a good game'There is obviously a wire or diode wrong somewhere so what i would ask if someone could send pictures of the slingshots and illustrate which wire goes where so i can put it right/ Cheers billy butler.

can be ANY diode in the row or column even if the sling sets it off.

On a further inspection of the rt side slingshot 3 lug switch of my hsg the dead lug has a plain white wire on as well as a red white plus correct end of diode .The white wire needs moving but where do i put it dont say up your bot.cheers billy breaker

Where does this plain White wire go to? If it's to the second slingshot switch, that could be the problem. The dead lug serves to connect the Row wire(s) (White, with trace) and the plain end of the diode. The additional switch connects in parallel to the first, with jumper wires. But not to the Row connection, unless the second switch has its own diode.

The wiring practice I recall is;
  • Row wire(s) to dead lug, with plain end of diode
  • Banded end of diode to the handier of the other lugs (one of the actual 'blades'). If there's another switch, as with a slingshot, also a jumper wire to the second switch
  • Column wire(s) to the other lug/blade. Again with a jumper wire to any second switch.
So, if this suspect wire is for the other switch, move it to the banded end of the diode.

Looking at the switch chart for Getaway, the slingshots switches are both on column 3, they're 3,1 and 3,2. What you may have here is a 'rectangle' phenomenon, caused by a diode being shorted out. Column 2,1 is the slam tilt, with 2,2 being 'Door Closed'. A diode fault on 3,2 could indeed cause a phantom Slam Tilt, provided the door was closed. It's known as a rectangle problem due to the culprit being diagonally opposite the 'phantom', once the other corners are known. And only showing when the other three corners are closed.

I realise now that i had not put wires on incorrectly when ihstalling rt side sling shot switches I had inadvertenly broken the switch.This bacame apparenr when col was correcting my bootlace solde wirs ring with his neat professional job.However on removing the switch from the m/c the bottom lug snapped off luckily I had a spare switch handy.This means i was trying to power a duff switch.Somehow the dead lug had both the red/white wire on plus the white wire and the plain end of the diode attached to the new switch.Once diagnosed an easy fix simply desolder the white wire and put onto the lug with the 2 wires on .Problem solved /Thanks for all help Cheers billy butler.
