If i lift the flap by hand I can feel it start to bind on something late in the liift.
Do I need to take the playfield out of the machine to access and inspect the mechanism or is there an easier way?
If I keep the release pressed down and liftthe flap up the ramp is free moving, no binding at all.

Hello,

If the playfield slides are sorted, pull the playfield forward, so that the latches lock over the pins, and then pivot it upright. The slide/lock/pivot brings fittings at the rear of a playfield much further into reach than a simple pivot, where they end up almost touching the floor of the cabinet. You shouldn't need to take the playfield out.

The lifting ramp on Getaway is similar to other uses like Road Kings, Pin-Bot or Gilligan's Island - a high power solenoid pulls in, and moves the linkage arm. A round bar attached to the arm fits into a guide on the ramp flap, lifting it up. Towards the end of travel, a latch drops over a spur on the linkage, so that the flap can't drop back down until a smaller coil withdraws the latching plate. I wonder if your problem may be similar to a common fault with Star Trek Next Gen, where it affects the drop target; the smaller coil can have its armature plate move out of alignment due to breakage of a stop on its little mounting frame. There should be a bent-around projection on the frame, controlling the position of the plate & latch when at rest (and preventing them from falling off, if the spring is removed).

Thank you for the advice.
I fitted new playfield slides on Friday.
Going away on holiday for a couple of weeks, early hours flight, will look at it when we get back.
