I've just been reading this great article before doing some flipper rebuilds:
http://www.performancepinball.com/rebuilding-flippers.html
and wondered if anyone has any particular tips when doing flipper rebuilds. I've done some in the past but even with a rebuild kit the flippers are never as snappy as they should be.

In particular, the piece talks about the importance of having a gap of *exactly* 3/8" for open EOS switched. How does one acheive *exactly* that? And does anyone use a gap tool to get the gap between the top of the bushing and the flipper bat, or do they use a credit card or just do it by eye...

So, any tips gratefully received...

I've always done it by eye or with a piece of card. My flippers have always felt fine after a rebuild, but I do tend to take the whole mech apart and clean every part that isn't replaced by the kit. Also a tiny amount of lubricant on the bearing surfaces of new plunger links works well. And by tiny I mean a drop picked up with a pin and well worked in and then cleaned afterwards, don't want any crud catchment pools of oil! Work the rebuilt mech by hand a few times to check it all feels smooth, and not wobbly or tight. - Just how I like my women! ;)
