Flipper problem

Left hand flippers (2) on 8 ball deluxe fail. They flip ok when in play but if I hold them up they don't work again for 2-3 seconds. It's like something is heating up and needs to cool down before it will go again

I took the board out and checked over it but can't see any sign of heating or cracks, is there a way of testing for this ?

Not really apart from visual inspection. I would reflow the solder on the relay and connector pins anyway as a matter of course and to eliminate that as a possibility as it is a well know cause of intermittent flipper operation. Not exactly your complaint but I would eliminate it as a possibility.

Check you Driver Board,. the top left connector J1 handles the ground returns to the flipper relay on the Driver Board. It is very common for the J1 male connector pins to crack where they solder to the board (resolder these points). Also check the solder points for the flipper relay. After that... check the ground path. A weak path to the ground could affect the flippers, check that the ground cable in the head is connected.
