Can I test a flipper coil strength on an SS with a multimeter? The left flipper feels a bit weaker than normal, but want to test conclusively before doing anything about it.

Yes, put the multimeter on the playfield just infront of the flipper and press the flipper button, measure how far it moves and then compare to the other flipper :D
I legit spat my drink at this, comedy Kev strikes again ;)

Something similar happened to me actually, I was using an iphone with spirit level app, had it stood against the flippers, while squeezing past accidentally pressed flipper button and launched the iphone up the playfield :)

Back on topic as far as I know the only electrical test for a flipper coil is to measure its resistance, i.e. compare to other flipper. 9 times out of 10 a weak flipper is mechanical, plunger mushroomed, worn sleeve, binding on playfield bushing, worn linkage etc.

Is it a sudden change or a new game ?

A good clean may well help (isopropyl alcohol). If the mechanical side of it is fine, you can finesse flipper strength with the end of stroke switch. The later this is activated, the more powerful it will be. You can transform flipper strength by adjusting the eos

If the flipper switch is high voltage (ss bally, pre 91 williams), dirty or pitted contacts on the eos switch or flipper cab switch could be the trouble

It could also be a transistor on the fliptronic board. Have you tried using the flipper test from the test menu?
