I tested AFM and even MMR and both do it so it’s meant to be, so those who say it shouldn’t do it are wrong.
Must be a good reason for it.

Good to know! It did mean I found my C2 is leaking so wasn't a total waste of time

At least no one asked why you were doing so; any punter could do that on a machine they didn't know, to see how lenient (or not) the tilt was. The old Stern games, while they didn't give warnings, would light the Tilt lamp if the switch was made during the attract mode, allowing a check on the sensitivity.
