Ideally no more than £1000. Would rather a sega pin to tie in with my cabs.
I really want a Star Wars, but also love the look of things like Tales From the Crypt but imagine they're rather over budget.

Thanks guys. Watched some vids online and not sure about the gameplay in JD but love the artwork.
Would consider others along these lines.
Been playing a few on the ps4s Pinball Arcade and feel the scifi/comic horror themed stuff appeals mostly.
Love the look of Monster Bash, but that looks to sell for a lot.

TFTC and JD are normally less than a grand (there's a JD on ebay at the moment), Star Wars might be more depending on which one it is. The Sega one should be under a grand. The DE one probably a couple of hundred more (it's taken me a while to admit this as I always thought of it as a cheap pin).

The good news is that whatever you buy should roughly keep it's value so you won't lose out when reselling. MB sadly is way out of your budget but it's not really as good as the hype. If you are ever in London Dan's is in the Pipeline at the moment so you can see one in the flesh.

Other titles that might be worth considering are Independence Day (currently on ebay) and Star Ship Troopers. Both fit it with your theme and should be around the grand mark or less.

There's not as many horror pins out there I guess MB,Creature, Scared Stiff, STTNG & The Addams Family fit loosely into this category but will all currently be out of your budget. At this stage I wouldn't worry too much about which pin you get. All of them have some redeeming features. Buy one, enjoy it for 6 months + then trade it for another (or get totally addicted and stash it somewhere and start saving for No2 and 3;)). So saying best to avoid Nightmare on Elm Street and X Files unless they really float your boat.

Always worth trying to meet up with local people, go to the leagues or the Slam so you can get the feel for a range of different tables

Good luck with your hunt

John

Ebay is always a good call. There's at least 1 Judge Dredd on there, but a grand for some machines is easily achieved.

MB consistently ranks in the top 4 pinballs ever made on pinside and I think that is a fair scoring system with years of input, what might be fair to say it that you can get games that generate the same amount of pleasure for considerably less money, can't comment on SW or TFTC but I personally did not enjoy the JD but again, each to their own, good luck with your search, are you handy at DIY because you will be extending your garage in no time ;)

What!!!! The filthy dred on eBay with the screw in the playfield  No no no !

Haha, but correct. I'd actually forgotten about that screw and perished rubbers :)

Tho saying this, not every machine on epay is bad and some of us forum members sell there!!:)

They tend to be offered here first though...

They do Carl but we cant all buy what's offered all the time and so some do head the epay route.

ive bought a few macines from ebay. Some have been fine and others truth of condition stretched :) luck of the draw I guess.

But most here have gone down the Epay route and had their pants down by total shysters on that site, over priced crap some of it!

Id definitely rather avoid eBay. Ive been collecting arcade gear since 2005 and don't think I've ever bought a cab or game off there.
I have gome off Judge Dread after watching some gameplay vids. I probably need to play some more.

I agree but there's nothing wrong with buying a machine from ebay if it has a comprehensive description and lots of hd large pics. As far as price is concerned, its up to the individual on what you want to pay.
Guessing the machines to avoid and to avoid being ripped off on are the opposite of what I've just said :) even if you bid and win then go to collect and it's not as described, walk away. Sellers can't leave negative feedback lol

Just do the right thing watch videos,go to shows,go to league meets play as many games as you can before deciding on a game you like to own .

Johnny, get yourself along to the south coast slam in April? and then you'll know and have a better understanding of what you want.
How many of us have bought a machine because of good reviews, never played 1 then get it home and after several games thought it was ****e and regretted it. I have.
Also, just because a game gets good reviews doesn't mean it's the game for you.
Ive played medieval madness and thought it was ok but would never pay the ridiculous price tag. Addams family in my opinion feels very old and over priced. Never again. However, indiana Jones is bloody fantastic. Personal choice bud :)

Couldn't agree more. In my opinion, some of the cheaper games are better.
ive been buying and collecting for around 14years and still cant see the attraction of paying 2.5k for an average condition addams. Must be just me :)

Initially I was thinking of just getting something really cheap to see how well I got on with it. But think I'm most keen on a Star Wars and it looks to be something I could sell on no worries if I get bored if it quick.. as long as I don't over pay.
Prices seem to vary though. I've seen £800 with a bit of ware to getting on for £1400 for fully workshopped.

If relying on shows only to base your judgement I would be very careful, a couple of rushed games in a noisy environment does not provide adequate evaluation of a particular title, you could play a couple of games on a BOP and think, wow I want one but truth be told you would get bored pretty quick if it was your only pin, on the flip side you could play 2 games on a BSD and think it's a crap drain monster, don't want it, whereas in fact the BSD is awesome but takes some bonding time, I personally would go with a theme that grabs your attention and watch as many youtube vids as possible, playing and watching pinball is similar to having and watching sex (it is at best a guide ;)) but if it does not float your boat watching someone else play it, music, theme, the lights etc etc then it probably won't in the flesh and vice versa.

Personally I have just purchased what I fancied/what was available at the time and kept what felt right for me, some of the keepers were machines I thought would be out the door in a week and some I thought would be keepers were out the door in a week (RFM springs to mind) basically get some guidance and get stuck in, buy/play your 1st machine to death, if you love it, keep it and buy another one, if it's not doing it for ya, sell it for the same money and try a different one, I should imagine the most you could loose on a £1000 pin would be a £100 unless you buy a lemon and there are plenty of us on here at your disposal too make sure you don't end up buying a fruit unless it's a peach.

Some good advice there for you Johnny. Most pinballs are on you tube. Watch them to death then go along to the south coast slam and play the ones that grabbed your attention .
You could always ask a forum member near yourself to play some games. You can have my T3 for 1500:)
