Finally, Pulp Fiction

Pulp is a stunning game in every way, pinball perfection in my opinion.

Will we ever see a game like it, I doubt it.

7 years in the making
Retro throwback requested from Tarantino, thank goodness
Top audio guy sorting out the music and effects, David Theil
Great machine build from CGC.
Etc, etc, etc

If only Tarantino got back to Play Mechanix and CGC and requested Jackie Brown and Reservoir Dogs machines :D

What's interesting to me is I hear a lot of people saying how great it is but I also know more than one of my pinball chums that HATE it. Not think it's a bit average, they think it's absolutely dreadful. Funny hobby

Each to their own and all that, I can see why it might not click with some people, its not a game that you can shoot from the hip, combo and string shots together, you really need to control the ball as there there aren't really many safe shots, added to that, quite a few important shots have limited time to make, so that adds to the pressure. Its a target shooting game rather than a ball path game IMO.

I think it's always normally theme dependent on what people are drawn to. When I have non pinball mates over they are drawn to TNA and Pulp. They look like old school machines, play like them are difficult and fast playing. When they play Godzilla they don't know whats going on and are over whelmed by it all, everything is crowded from the get go, even with the art from the minute they see it. Modern machines for non pinball people, I think you need a proper bash toy in them.

For me it's much like the old school video games, the old school stuff me and my mates are drawn to and it's the same with the pinball machines I think, but me and my mates are getting old.

I often think these Modern games are so deep and I don't understand them all, and thinking I also don't have the patience to learn them.

I'm always looking out for news on Modern Retro pinball machines, in the hope that more get made and released.

Really really would like to own a Stern Jaws one day though, not for the main game, for playing the Jaws the Revenge 8bit mode :)

Chalk me up another one who thought this would be a pretty naff game - but what do you know, it turned out to be brilliant. Being such a fan of the theme - I picked up a relatively cheap LE that I thought I would just sell on if i didnt like it, but man its a cracking game. Brutally hard yes, and probably suits a bigger line up but it really has that one more game feel.

If you are a fan of the movie like I am, you may be disappointed that it doesnt have an LCD screen to show clips. However, I can tell you it's all about the dialogue - and they have got ALL the quotes in here, you actually dont miss the screen at all.

This game will absolutely kick your **** for half an hour. Then suddenly you'll get Clean the car with a 3x playfield, one rip of that spinner, the shaker going off, the classic spinner sound and the points going nuclear, it's just too good!

Love it! It's a game where you can have 20 games, all around the 1million mark, and then suddenly everything clicks, you start and finish modes, get the multiplier running, and you have a 10-15million game

People have been asking Josh about making a setting to change Briefcase Multiball to cumulative, but he seems really against it, said he wants one objective that HAS to be completed in one go.

On another note, what are people doing with the Multiplier stetting?
Got mine at the default 3x, tempted to rase it but worried it would make the game unbalanced, like prioritising the multiplier would be the only viable strategy.

I think it was 6 on early code, but yeah I kind of feel like that, nailing a shot for monster score must be pretty satisfying tho

Why not just add it as an option - ie let the users decide. Seems short sighted. I’ve played many games where I just aim for briefcase mball - can start it easily enough but can never finish it. That means I’ll never get to the end of the game unless I take the glass off! So many times I’ve done all the others, which adds to the frustration.
Maybe I’ll hack the code…… ha ha.

Yeah that's sort of the point other people we're making, never got close to finishing myself.

I understand his thoughts process, having an option would be great, or even an option to swap the rules between briefcase and pawn shop, as that one is at least it's possible in one go for mere mortals. If you did hack the code you would have quite a few buyers 😆

If you know anything of Josh Sharpe it makes total sense 🤣

I understand that the next code update will make multiball scoring higher, so it is more worth your while playing for those rather than just focusing on modes with Kahuna scoring

In terms of modes and stuff yeah its complete, just scoring adjustments and scorebit integration I think

And that annoying switch error message on boot

I do think multiballs could be a little more generous in terms of scoring. That switch error message thing is odd. Sometimes it's there and others it's not. I think it's too do with not hitting a switch enough during a poor game, software wants you to check it's working when in actual fact you're just playing terribly 🤣

I don’t and I don’t understand.
He is very intentional and would likely take the position of “I, the game designer, have made a deliberate choice for progress not to carry over in this multiball” and leave it at that without leaving it to the player to decide via settings.

He has acknowledged that the Briefcase insert is the hardest task en route to the wizard mode
