Looking in the b/box of this trail drive I bought how do you remove the stepper units left and right in the pic. Ok it’s screws but there’s umpteen wires attached. Why remove them? I want to clean them before I eventually assemble the head n cab. I don’t know a damn thing about EM’s so this is one hellava learning curve (more like a circle than a curve). Ken

If you take off the "spider" on the right hand unit, you should be able to leave the bakelite sheet with all those wires attached in the game whilst you take out the rest of the unit to clean it.
That will reduce the number of wires you need to deal with very significantly
For the other wires, you can either desolder them and remove the unit complete, or unfasten the wired coils and switches from the unit and leave them hanging whilst you clean the unit itself.
The main thing that normally needs doing with these units is the dissasembly of the main body and removal of old grease and muck that may be causing the unit to bind, or even stop moving altogether.
If you are doing a lot of work in the head, you may find it easier to remove the board with all the stuff on and lay it face down on your work bench/kitchen table!

Cheers
Yea sounds a good idea to remove the complete board and lay it down. Just wanna clean off any grease n crap that might be lurking.
What’s best for cleaning score reels without taking the numbers off.
Thanks Ken
