Interested in some opinions

I had been after a specific used garden shredder and watched ebay prices vary between 100 and 400 for 9 months. Seemingly randomly. I scored at 100.

Pinball prices have also seemed similarly random

I know ebay is a sewer, especially when 99p listings are available but might I ask for views on what on earth is going on. Simple answer is shilling, but there must be more to it......

Is there a whole new category of lockdown buyers bidding up weaker WPC titles?

Are top end WPC titles being dumped by guys replacing with TV backbox games?

These are from an ebay search today of UK based completed listings that resulted in a sale....

TZ. 5.1k. Seems sensible. Has been priced around 5k for over a year...

Monster Bash. 4.4k. Seems sensible. Game dropped from highs of 2 yrs ago thanks to MBR ...

Cirqus Voltaire. 4.3k. Seems sensible. Maybe a bit down from a couple of years ago when folk were chasing 5k for these.

Judge Dredd. 3.2k. WTF ?. Never a fancied title. Hovered around 2k for ages.

BoP. 3.1k, 1.8k, 1.6k, 1.4k WTAF ?

Spectrum. 2k. Never a fancied SS Bally, yet one of the highest prices one from this era has made

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133541977674

Demo Man 2k. Never a fancied title. Normally similar money to a Judge Dredd (the 3.2k one ?)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124396560550

High Speed. 1.7k. Good system 11 games have been 1.5k for a couple of years so this price did not surprise me

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184549850750

Vector. 1.4k. Unfashionable Bally SS. These came for about 700 three years ago

IMHO it's not just ebay. If you look at the for sale section here, some titles have been lingering at good prices for a long time, whereas others have sold at prices never seen before.

But generally I think people are coming to the realisation that a pinball machine is a pinball machine. Yes some titles are rank higher on pinside/ipdb, but they're all good fun (mostly). This is causing the gap between "cheap" and "expensive" games to narrow. If you look, most of the expensive games (CV, MB, LOTR, etc.) have gone down, while the cheap ones (JD, BoP, FG) have gone up.

There have been a LOT of lotr come up. Big surprise for me was high speed making 1650. Hope buyer doesnt think its getaway!

Big surprise was Vector making £1.4k. That must be a mistake or the result of shilling.

Out of all those listed, most seem to be roughly in the right area although I'd always want a game to be cheaper off ebay because of the unknown condition factor (which is probably why I'll never buy off ebay again) :D The outliers at daft prices are the JD, the 3.1k BOP, Spectrum and Vector.

I can kind of understand the High Speed price based on it being a great game, important in pinball history so therefore desirable and most importantly, they don't come up often. There are also still bargains out there. A Gottlieb Strange World EM went for £545 which is great money for a rare late model wedgehead. I was watching it but then I wasn't around at auction end so missed out, although I really don't need to be buying more games

all you need is two bidders wanting a machine. the spectrum was mine. the winner wanted it badly as it was his first machine he played years ago. the other bidder was someone in the netherlands. he’d asked me all about shipping etc so was very keen too.

if one of those two hadn’t been interested then it would have gone for £1500-1600 looking at the other bids placed.

but that BOP at over £3k was a real surprise to me. given two had gone sub £2k recently.
