Played on Diner for the first time in few weeks and noticed when I hit the ramp/cup shot for the second time ( the first to open the diverter )
The lights on DINER aren’t going out and just the single D lit as it should be but all the letters keep lit which isn’t correct set on Medium.
Iv got the machine set up in my guarage which isn’t ideal.
Please can someone advise if and what component on the board could cause this.

Thankyou
Simon

First of all are you sure that's not the correct behaviour? On our diner when you open the diverter I'm sure the diner letters go out and then light up for each spin of the cup and only go off if you spin the cup. If you don't spin the cup the letters stay lit after the diverter closes.
Plus on medium your first ball starts with diner fully lit allowing one shot to open the diverter and the second to stir the cup.
If I get a chance I'll double check what ours does.

If it's not correct behaviour Go into the diagnostics and see how the lamps behave in single lamp test.

I have had lamp issues, either lamps stuck on or not working at all and most times itt turned out to be the pre driver transistor and the other it was the resistor in the same circuit.

Unfortunately not as easy to diagnose without a logic probe

Hi David
Thanks for that, ok iam finding in medium DINER is fully lit then you shoot the ramp to open the divertor then shoot the cup. Then the single D should be lit.
Mine doesn’t all the letters stay lit.

Is the cup registering? If the ball doesn't hit the switch it won't know it was there and the letters will stay illuminated.

If the balls spinning and giving points in the cup it's a bit strange!

Try setting it to hard diner letter settings and see if they behave as expected, check with glass off.

Hi David
Ok iv tried all the different settings and it’s still doing it, yes the cup is registering. Sounds like it’s a board issue what do you think.

You need to first confirm what is actually occurring so you can work out whether it is a switch issue or a lamp issue.

Correct operation of right ramp is:

1. At start up, all 5 diner lights lit.
2. Shot to ramp opens diverter and starts timed stir the cup feature, all 5 DINER lamps flash during timer.
3. If you don't stir the cup, by the end of the timed period go back to step 1 above.
4. If you do stir the cup during timed period, then each stir of the cup simultaneously increases the score on the display and lights one of the DINER lamps. After you have finished stirring the cup all 5 DINER lamps extinguish.
5. Next 4 ramp shots awards increasing points 25K/50K/75K/100K and as awarded on display also lights DINE. lamps in turn.
6 Fifth ramp shot awards 250K, lights the R in DINER and starts timed stir the cup feature.
7. If you don't stir the cup, by the end of the timed period the 5 DINER lamps remain lit and you go back to step 2 above.
8. If you do stir the cup during timed period, then each stir of the cup simultaneously increases the score on the display and lights one of the DINER lamps. After you have finished stirring the cup all 5 DINER lamps extinguish and you go back to step 5 above.

If all the functionality and scoring works as above but the lamps just don't work as they should then you have a problem with the lamp matrix. To diagnose exactly what is wrong with it you need to describe exactly what is happening at each stage above. And you would need to know if there are any other lamps not working as they should, as the issue may not be confined only to the DINER lamps.

Really appreciate your detailed explanation, I’ll spend some time on it and see exactly what is happening.
Many thanks for your input and help

If it's a board issue it's probably out of my area of expertise without poking around myself!
But I can't see how it is, often it's something simple just hard to diagnose 🤞🏻
