Dear All,

I am pleased to announce that this year's Festive Pinball Gathering will be held on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December 2014.

Friday 5th:

Open 6.30pm to 10pm. Social gathering on Friday night for those who want an early start to the weekend. Normal Special When Lit entry fee applies: £5 per person, £3 for children under 16, free for children aged 10 and under.

Saturday 6th:

Open noon to 7pm. The Fourth Festive Classics will be held on Saturday in conjunction with/alongside the Special When Lit League. Both the Classics and League are open for everyone to play in. For those who don't feel competitive and would rather not participate in the League and/or the Classics then all remaining 10 or so machines will be available to play.

For the Classics, 5 machines will be used with the top 3 qualifiers on each machine (plus the next best attempt – the 5 fourth places will be checked for percentage nearest the third place and the lowest will qualify) progressing to the knock-out stage. Trophies will be presented to the overall top 4 players. Normal side tournament (50%) WPPR points apply.
In a change to how normal league meets are run; six machines will be randomly selected at 12 noon and they will all be played as single player games throughout the afternoon. There will be no practice allowed on them before hand, although you may practice on other games that are not being used for the league.

The Festive Classics knockout round will start on completion of qualifying at 4pm, the Classic final will be played after all league games have been completed. Normal WPPR league points will apply to those who are not part of another local league (the national/regional organised UK Pinball League is separate and players in that league can attend and participate in any local league).

Cost:

Classics – 50p per qualifying attempt per person; unlimited qualifying attempts allowed until 4pm. Any game in progress at 4pm will count on completion.

League / Normal entry (not competitive) – £5 per person, £3 for children under 16, free for children aged 10 and under.

Sunday 8th: SOLD OUT

Open 11am until 6pm. Registration and practice is 11am - 12noon then the Sixth Festive Pinball Gathering Tournament starts. The tournamnt is organised by Pinball News and a certain Martin Ayub. The tournament format will be qualifying games followed by knock-out rounds to determine the finalists. Trophies will be presented to the top 4 players, plus one for best female and one for best junior under 16 years old. Normal WPPR tournament points apply.

Cost:

£10 per person, £6 for children under 16, free for children aged 10 and under.

The venue address is: Special When Lit, Unit 5, Loyal Trade Business Park, Stephenson Road, Salisbury SP2 7NS.

Follow the signs for Churchfields Industrial Estate. The venue is in a little enclave away from the road immediately after a Glass company showroom, which is found on the corner of Stephenson Road and Churchfield Road (Scats can be seen on the other corner).

The website can be found at:Special When Lit – Events

The machine line up is as follows (subject to availability/serviceability):
Attack From Mars
Avatar
Black Knight
Cactus Canyon
Circus Voltaire
Fire Mountain

Lord of the Rings
Medeval Madness
Pink Panther

Terminator 2
The Simpsons Pinball Party
Theatre of Magic

Other useful information:

Parking is available outside the unit, visitors are asked to park sensibly to allow easy access for everyone. Once the compound is full, parking can be by the edge of the road on Stephenson Road (if you view the satellite photo on google maps you will see what I mean).

Lots and lots of accommodation available in and around Salisbury. Trip advisor normally has a good selection http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Tourism-g186414-Salisbury_Wiltshire_England-Vacations.html There is a Premier Inn a couple of miles from the centre and just under 3 miles from the venue.

Shops are just over 5 min walk away. In fact most of the centre of Salisbury can be reached in 10 minutes or so on foot.

Transport wise, a good road network from almost any direction, Railway Station 5 mins away (Waterloo to Salisbury train takes 90 mins, Bristol to Salisbury at a tad over 90 mins). National express coaches arrive 10 mins away. Bournemouth and Southampton airports 40 mins away by car.

Pub wise Salisbury has one of the highest concentration of pubs per square mile in the country…

At the present time there are 4 spaces remaining for Saturday, Sunday remains sold out and next slot is 7th reserve.

I'd like to say a very big thank you to all my helpers last Sunday - Andrew @dragon2000 , Tim and Nick who put in a long hard days cleaning, tinkering and fixing. Awesome work fellas!

So the national and international travellers arrived last night...

Looking forward to the masses arriving today.

A polite reminder that nibbles are not intended as someone's lunch. They are intended to last the afternoon so please make sure you have your normal lunch or pop by Waitrose for something. Tea, Coffee and water are free of charge, soft drinks and chocolate that are in the fridge are to be paid for.

Another excellent event at Special When Lit! Looked like everyone had lots of fun.
A massive thanks to Peter for having the dedication and determination to run the club and host such events.

We are really lucky having such a variety in machines to play. It's awesome to have such a fantastic selection to choose from to try and qualify on!
Was pleased with getting so far in the classics on Saturday but should have got a bit better scores on Sunday (next year!). Well done to everyone who took part. Good to see so many friendly faces.

Thanks also to Peter, Moira, Hilary and the helpers for a great weekend of Pinball. An excellent line up of varied machines, keep it up!

Dave & Lynda.

I have just downloaded this from my phone...

Was a certain someone's birthday on the Sunday.
