Hi all.

Bought my first pin recently. After a hour ish of play, the left flipper is binding.

It was doing it last night after a little while, but was fine this morning, but again, after a little while, its binding again.

Ive checked it not electrical by turning the machine off when it is raised, and it stays that way. I do feel resistance compared to thr right flipper when I removed the glass to check it.

Any help would be gratefully received as I wouldn't mind getting my hands dirty and learn as I go.

Thanks

Sounds like it needs a flipper rebuild - get a flipper rebuild kit and put all the new parts on.

In the meantime take the existing one apart and find out what the issue is: is it a deformed coil sleeve, knackered end stop, magnetised end stop? - is the flipper bat or shaft catching on anything through mal-adjustment? Is the bushing the shaft goes through ok? Loads to look at and learn about how a flipper mech works.

If its ok when cold but happens once machine warms up - maybe the coil is overheating and causing the plunger to bind. Is the coil the right spec? Is it overheating for some reason?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I shall find a rebuild kit and start taking this one out.

Should I replace both while I'm at it, or just the one side?

Pinball heaven or pinball mania , around £55 for 2 flipper rebuild kit, you’ll need to know year of your machine, stamped front edge of playfield or on info card inside cabinet. Make sure you have good Allen keys of the right size , 2 required before you start. And take a photo of each mechanism before you take them apart.
