If ones hologram is not working, what does one do (apart from panicking) and I'm not very good at that. Is anything available out there ?

Hi Paddy,

I feel your pain!
It’s nearly impossible to find an original hologram replacement and all the aftermarket replacements seem not to be available at the moment.
If you have experience of using and programming Raspberry Pi you could take a look at the Tiltaudio https://go-dmd.de/produkt/tiltaudio-cftbl-bundle/. First problem was that the server image will only run on an old version of the Raspberry Pi 3B so you have to source a pre 2019 RPI3B (luckily my son had one😃). The next problem is interfacing the server with the game, 2 options build and install the Tiltaudio sound board and link the 2 systems using a usb to ttl interface cable, this method takes a quite bit of setting up but once aligned it works well. The other method is to interface the SMS with a pin2dmd rs232 interface, I did try that but lost the will to live as you need to decode the hex output from the game to trigger the individual video clips at different stages of the game.
Regardless of the above even with the system is working well it’s not really a purist replacement for the hologram and I’d replace it at the drop of a hat if I ever source one!
If you decide to go tiltaudio drop me a pm and I’ll happily help you with the build and integration 👍

Regards
Ken

Doesn't @stumblor have a product that interfaces with game features, that may be easier to program?
Hi @
@stumblor produces some amazing mods for CFTBL, I was lucky enough to get the chase echo for mine which I love. He does not however have a replacement for a failed hologram, the rippler removes the requirement for use of the bend motor (fantastic mod if your hologram still functions). I do believe however if he ever put his mind to it he would produce an amazing replacement 😃

Hi, sorry I was a little ambiguous, it wasn't a creech hologram replacement but a general product for interfacing with WPC.

This is the fella I believe: https://stumblorpinball.com/products/pinp

That had passed me by 🫣 I’m definitely going to take a closer look at the mod, I had to change out my Pinsound board for the Tiltaudio board and would love to revert back. Thanks for heads up 😃👍

Have to say that looks a very unimpressive replacement considering the original is animated, here's someones idea for a DIY fix for the original.

I do agree, the original is the best solution, Ive spent around 80 hours so far recoding the Tiltaudio CFTBL server mod and am currently producing some additional videos / cartoons to add to the library. I do have a longterm wanted ad for a replacement hologram but nothing yet (fingers crossed crossed).

That Tilt Audio product does appears to be using some of the video footage from the pinball MikeD mod from approx 11 years
