regrettably we need a new front door and side lghts

Does anyone have experience of these things, know where they can be bought sensibly ?

They are basically thick plywood cored doors wrapped in thick grained plastic so they look and feel like a wood door, but without the maintenance, painting, warping .....

Sadly this is home improvement territory so means liars, lies, bullsh1t, folk who will do or say anything to make commission. Companies that will go bad faster than a prawn sandwich, high pressure morons, shoddy work, watchdog investigations, trading standards .....

I know there are some players in this industry who are honest, if you managed to uncover one could you let me know who it was pls

Composit doors are a minefield. I've seen some that are just a studded lath frame (because they've been cut down thin) stuffed with insulation and thin plastic stuck on.

Don't buy from Yale. A good name masking poor subbies and locks that break.

No experience of composite doors, but anyone with 'Euro Cylinder' type barrel locks on their uPVC front door, patio doors, etc, should get them changed if they value security. Very easy to swap over yourself to something more secure that won't snap like a Euro Cylinder will.

Also very easy to break into, as this lady will explain (focus on the lock, not the down-blouse):

Thanks guys. I know about this one. A friend of mine was burgled, the police told him that between a quarter and a third of all burglaries in his area involved euro lock snapping.

I updated all of mine when I learnt about this one. Mine have magnets in, good for security but crap as they stick to modern coins so you end up with a pile of them by your door. More modern locks do not use these damned magnets.

What you need is anti bump, anti snap, anto pick locks. They are not too expensive. Changing the lock barrel takes less than one minute. If you have several in your house you could consider getting them keyed alike. They are different lengths, so you need to measure the length of what you are replacing.

The standard europrofile locks that come with multipoint locking patio and double glazed doors are complete crap. If you have these, change them

So what the video is saying that to get through a eurlock you need
1- metal bar similar diameter to lock
2 - screwdriver
3 - special tool to turn the lock
4 - Nice tits

Hmmm, personally I would just chuck a brick through the large piece of glass in the middle of the door and then spend the few extra minutes saved rubbing her hooters.....

That brick would just bounce back in your face - toughened glass

I've never seem a lock snapped that easy. Blimey. I've seen crow barred off handle to snap the lock with a hammer.
Most hinges are cast. So snap with a good wack with a hammer and and bolster chisel.
But I've also drilled a few locks with a shear line. So really if they want in. They'll get in.
Toughened glass always seems to be the weak point of the house.

I bought these fancy pants locks when I heard how easy the originals were to break (these Avocet ones are supposed to be the best you can get to protect against that sort of thing)

I also took it as an opportunity to get all my locks keyed alike when buying them

And you know me, I filmed replacing them lol

The guy who was burgled was advised to buy these avocet locks.

I bought them too after doing my research. Very large range so you can get the correct sizes. Even half cylinders for use in electric roller shutters and the like. They have all worked fine for three years or so BUT these do have magnets.

Along with the general decline in uk standards, modern coins contain steel as a cost cutting measure.

I know that Luke only deals in folding money but for bumpkins like me that still use coins just be aware that this happens .....

Did you take the external beads off of the door to see how secure the glass and panel are?
