So just got my ColorDMD for Tommy.

Installed and working now.

One question though, this screen extends considerably above the speaker panel :hmm:...so much so that it sits in front of the lightboard meaning you have to remove a few bulbs. There is no way the light board will close with screen in position, you have to close it first then put the screen in position. And its a *really* tight fit.

Surely this can't be right ??? I have seen pics online and the screens do not extend nearly as far.

Those who have installed care to comment.

I have emailed Sean at Pinball Palace to check this is correct, but obvs wont get reply until tomorrow.

A rather puzzled Sgt GrizZ

I read on PInside about Data East being a PITA to fit. Apparently you have to use a Dremel

The DE installation instructions are on the Color DMD website, but not under Support where they should be, they're linked on the Tommy order page.

Indeed .....yeah had to get the dremel out to cut a slot in the top lip of the speaker panel.:eek: Its fine and completely unnoticeable when panel is in position but yeah was a pain.

But even so ..... pics I see of ColorDMD on other games they extend maybe 10mm above speaker panel ??? This one is like 4 or 5 inches !!! Its just enormous, I'm wondering if Sean has sent the wrong one, yet I struggle to see what game this would be for as surely it would interfere with all light boards :cuckoo:

Glad I don't own Data East as I've never even seen, never mind used a dremel!

I have several Color DMD's and I'm pretty sure they're all the same size. Just measured one and it's 21cm high.

OK. That is considerably smaller than this one. And I'm assuming that at that size they dont interfere in any way with the light board ?

No, as long as you use the right mounting holes on the bracket, I've fitted to WPC95, WPC and Stern with no problem.

Right ...ignore above.

I knew I was too tired to be p*ssing about with this tonight

This one is 21 cm also. As I just noticed ....duh ....looking at TAF sat beside it .......the speaker panel on Tommy is way shorter than on a Bally Williams.

So it looks like this is just the way it has to be. Which is not brilliant tbh having to remove a few bulbs leaves the backglass dull at the bottom  Hmmm.

Thanks for yr help @mark9

Have you def got it fitted in the right mounting holes?
Yep. Only one way it can fit. Like I said above, have realised it's because the Tommy panel is much shorter in height than Bally Williams games.

Someone on Pinside just confirmed theirs is the same. Have to remove a few bulbs on the lightboard. ColorDMD should prob mention this on their site.

The laptop screen on the display conversion on my Sega Frankenstein is the same. It sits up above the light box door so you have to remove a few bulbs
and you can't open the door until you lay the dmd assy down but no-one sees it and i got 3 colours instead of the original single colour. Ken
