Coil Sleeve Insertion Direction

I've mentioned this in my shop log but appreciate that many people won't see it; particularly as my shop log must be one of the longest running and has stagnated at times. ;-)

Anyway, the rebuild is continuing but one issue I have found has occurred when rebuilding the flippers.

I've inserted brand new coil sleeves but having done so i've found that now the coils won't sit correctly in the brackets. The nodule at the top which is meant to locate them actually gets pushed forward and i'm not sure if it's because the sleeves are in the wrong way round or because i've just not pushed them home enough. So far as I can see they won't go in any further but I have to say they were extremely hard to get in place; it makes me wonder if I should be replacing the coils.

Here's a picture of the flipper assembly before I stripped it all down.

When I inserted the new sleeves I positioned the flanged end to the right; so the flared bit is actually protruding on this end. The issue i've found is that when fitting the front bracket it's now pushing the coil forwards so the plunger no longer moves freely.

This raises a couple of questions from me:

1. Have I actually got the sleeve the right way round or have been a total and utter idiot?
2. If a coil is especially tight when fitting a new sleeve is it recommended to replace it?

Grateful for feedback on this one.

Flanged end of the sleeve should be at coil stop end, i.e. left in your pic. Then the sleeve should protrude through the bracket on the right side slightly.

I thought that too - but then I also read something about it being reversed on flippers.

Or maybe i've got the wrong end of the stick and it's just the diode/connectors which are mounted the opposite way round on flippers.

It looks like I might be investing in some more coil sleeves; these are so tight that I doubt i'll get them out in one piece. Oops.

Yes diode/solder tabs away from the coil stop (and vibration) which is easy on these as the coil has a lug at the bracket end to home it.

Tight coil sleeves aren't great so I replaced on my Hook but easy decision as they were wrong coils anyways. That one of yours has seen some action compare the windings to my (old) one below;

Having weighed things up i've decided to go the whole hog and replace the coils.
