Hi everyone

I am looking to use a C220 coin mech in a Fish Tales so we can treat it like a home piggy bank. The one I have here was last tested/updated in 2017, so assume it's good to go with the newer coins. I popped it in Fish Tales and connected it up and it works. However it won't accept a £1 coin and a 50p gives me two credits. I have tried to work out in the FT Pricing Adjustments settings how to change it, but nothing seems to be working. If anyone has instructions or suggestions I would be grateful!

Hello,

The Wpc board-set only has four coin input 'switches', with the u.k. allocation having their Coin Door Interface board in the cabinet able to 'pair' the eight channels of a C220 acceptor, and enable/inhibit these using the 8-way switch provided on the CDI board.

As I recall, the paired channels that it makes possible are 1 & 5, 2 & 6 (used for the 50 pence coins on this acceptor), 3 & 7, and 4 & 8. As such it can really only cope with 4 different monetary values. Going by the label. it has 10 pence 'pre 2010' paired with the £2 coin. That may cause a problem with the pricing scheme, but at home this may be alright.

Check that the 8-way switch isn't set to inhibit any of the channels. Again from memory, though it's screened on the CDI board, the switches from top to bottom are;
  1. Enable/inhibit all coins
  2. Select 4 channel/8 channel
  3. Enable/inhibit channel 1 (£1 coin for this one)
  4. Enable/inhibit channel 2
  5. Enable/inhibit channel 3
  6. Enable/inhibit channel 4
  7. Enable/inhibit channels 5 & 6
  8. Enable/inhibit channels 7 & 8
So I suppose you'll need all On, except maybe No. 7, to disable the old 50 pence.

If it doesn't accept a £1 coin even with the channel enabled, maybe it's still set for the previous coin.

As to the pricing scheme itself, dealing with the £2 coin wasn't part of the picture when Fish Tales was built, so you'll probably need to set a Custom scheme. Check in switch test which of the coin input 'switches' show up for each of the coin outputs from the acceptor. The factory wiring is 'Left'/D1 for £1, 'Centre'/D2 for 50 pence, 'Right'/D3 for 20 pence and '4th'/D4 for 10 pence. Given the 4 & 8 pairing on the acceptor, I'd expect a £2 coin to show the same as a 10 pence.

In that case, then, inhibit every channel except No. 1. Then the regular u.k. pricing should produce 4 credits for £1. I think it was 1 play 30 pence, 2/50 pence, 4/£1.

worthwhile remembering that whilst the new £1 coin was officually released in 2017, the royal mint released "pre-release" test coins prior to this date. It was found that these caused issues - they varied wildly. To top it off, they were pristine as they were new... now we have "worn" versions out there some mechs struggle to cope.

a LOT of people who programmed these early experienced issues with not accepting the £1 coin, and those that didnt have problems then have experienced some since. This is why whenever i program these i do so with a set bunch which vary from used coins to almost new ones - then you know coins of all ages are generally accepted (usually 98% and upwards acceptance)
