Ok finally resolved the big issues!

Thanks to Simon (will update an @ reference when I find his name on pinfo) for the help.

DMD issue was resolved by replacing the ribbons and cleaning the contacts

Opto firing was a faulty receiver opto. Unsoldered and replaced.

Opto for motor firing constantly was caused by the long range opto board. I had told him to replace this as it's flakey as f and I'm glad I did as it was! Replacement board was in the stuff he bought ready for the decals.

I also switched out the large opto board with my old one as someone had put in a vertical mounted one? Also it was loose and had burn marks so I didn't trust it.


Final issue to resolve is the sound, but we've got Pinsound so will just put that in.

So put the old driver board back in today and the GI, Solenoids and inserts lights didn't work.

Spoke to @Ragnar1057 who concluded it must be j113 ribbon connector. He was bang on.

When I took the board off at the start it had a new ribbon cable there which I thought odd as the other ribbons were old and knackered. Upon inspection of the board putting bit back I noticed pin 1 was practically bent 90 degrees!

Trying to bend it back, no dice the pin came straight off...

Board is going off for repair.

Meanwhile I installed the flex flashers and installed the speaker panel and backglass.





Installed the ColourDMD but haven't added the chroma file yet.

Also forgot I added back a lamp into the front pop bumper. Dear God trying to solder the wires back under the playfield was a nightmare.

Boring work got in the way today.

Only had time to fit the comets.

Ok so side rails, hinges and lockbar done.

Just got to receive and install the power driver board and test and I'm done.

On the final stretch now.

GI was short 6 bulbs, David from Retro Arcade Specialists is sorting it out for me.

@Ragnar1057 came through with a fast and professional repair on the board. Recapped all the capacitors and sorted the J113 connector.





He also did an excellent job modding the love never dies lamp board so I could install it flush below the ColorDMD.

Next up I had to resolve some lamp issues on the inserts on 3 PCB'S, added solder and reflowed header pins and pads.

One is still playing up but I think it's the wiring. Will likely need to repunch.

Machine is nearly done now. Added the chroma file to the ColourDMD and added the sound package.

Also replaced the knackered apron with mine.

Final elements:

Resolve (if I can) long range opto issue.
Replace missing 6 GI Bulbs
Adjust lighting arrangement in backbox.

Full Capacitor replacement is the best thing to do with our 30 year old machines, Ive done all mine and everyone had bad readings on the meter.

Been improving our backbox design.

Really happy with the results.

To clarify artwork is designed by @Dracoola (my wife) had a few people ask who designed it and where it was made.

We can make more but either will need my effort to fit (comet extenders etc.) Or I can provide instructions if you don't mind getting your feet wet.
