Hope someone can point me in the right direction, i have a problem when i turn the machine on the mist motor runs for about 8 circuits before stopping. In a game after mist multiball the machine seems to get a bit confused with the number of balls in play. I have re-flowed the connectors on the opto pcb, checked the long range opto and other switches involved in the mist motor (switch check), checked trough switches too. This happened after i added a nvram module and changed the left drain switch. I am assuming i have disturbed something but i cant see what as both are pretty simple jobs. Getting error "magnet Unload Error" in diagnostics

Appreciate any advice

I would clean the mist optos with cotton buds and alcohol. Check them with a mobile phone camera.

BSD is notorious for mist opto board issues. When I got mine, I was getting similar errors as you described. In test mode it seemed to work ok. But got confused in gameplay and would shoot extra ball into play when it should have loaded mist gate, etc.
I just replaced the long opto board under the playfield with a new Homepin one, and all my problems went away just like that. Has been rock solid since.
I hope you get it sorted 👍🏼

Thanks chaps that’s great, much appreciated, do u know where I can get the homepin pcb ?

Have you run the mist multiball test routine? That can give you clues to what the problem is. If you cant decipher it, record the dmd display during the test and post it here.
Beyond the normal broken wires etc, two particular problems spring to mind.

One of the gates is mis-adjusted and is blocking the led path. Adjust it so that it rests clear of the beam.
The Inductor ( black cylinder ) on the mist pcb has broken off due to vibration. Check it is fimly attached.

i will check the gate as i could have disturbed it when the playfield was raised,

Thanks for everyone’s help, I think Andy was correct and it was a misaligned gate, I am swapping the opto and the opto pcb ( homepin) as recommended. Once again thanks for everyone’s help it’s much appreciated. It’s a great game although I am appalling bad at it, so brutal 😆

Drew

Put normal flippers on mate, but don't tell anyone. Then when it becomes less brutal put the lightning ones back on.

I didn’t realise they were different, I may do that initially. It’s a great game I hadn’t played one before buying this one,

The standard flippers are quite a bit shorter than normal, which makes the game a lot harder. The gap is bigger and you have less time to line up shots.

Would someone send me a pic of their lhs mist multiball gate as I think something is wrong with the fitting of mine

Drew

Mine is doing the same thing at the moment. I haven't had time to investigate it but the switch on the hole above that lhs mist is getting triggered without the ball passing through. Pretty sure that's confusing it.

My long range opto seems fine, when you break the beam the homepin pcb registers it on it’s built in test (green led) but it isn’t registering on the switch test 🤔

Would suggest there is an issue with the switch bit, either of the homepin board or the cables. Have you checked if the connector got damaged when changing the board?

Yes I think you could be right or the cpu pcb I might order a new one from Phil to eliminate it

Had a similar issue with random switches - was convinced it was the opto in the kick out under the village. Changed to the homepin board but was still happening. Turns out it was a faulty diode on one of the other switches on the same row. Worth checking as it takes 5 mins to test, if only to rule it out

Indeed, switches on the CPU are easy to check by unplugging the column and row connectors and shorting the pins accordingly. If your other switches, especially in the same row and column operate correctly though it is more likely that cabling or the homepin board have an issue.

Swapped the optos changed the 24" pcb, changed the cpu pcb to eliminate that (needed one for another machine anyway) same problem. When in switch test i noticed the 24" led test flickering, bent the ball guide so the ball was a little higher and the issue is resolved. Thanks for everyone's help
