When two of the iconic characters involved in this are the joker and the riddler, the potential for shenanigans is limitless

How about we club together, buy the super dooper limited edition. Squalid location. Just tear the box to show it is kosher. Necklace it with a tractor tyre and some kerosene. Post it on pinside ?

Stern Pinball in Collaboration with Ka-Pow Pinball Celebrates 30 Years in Business with Release of Batman ‘66 Pinball Game!
Holy Golden Anniversary, Iconic Batman TV Show Turns 50!
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL – September 15, 2016 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world's oldest and largest producer of arcade-quality pinball machines, proudly announced today the availability of its highly anticipated Batman ‘66 Anniversary Edition pinball machine.
Stern Pinball is celebrating its 30th year in business and the 50th anniversary of the iconic American TV series with an Anniversary Edition pinball machine featuring the world famous “Dynamic Duo” of Batman and Robin. The game will immerse players in campy fun and heart-pounding action as the crime fighting Dynamic Duo comes to the aid of the Gotham City Police. Throughout the game, Batman and Robin work to deduce clues and discover super villain plots in an effort to thwart evil plans and capture bad guys. Players are guided through the game by the voices of none other than the original Batman and Robin, Adam West and Burt Ward.
A Hall of Fame pinball development team created the all new Anniversary Edition machine. The project was inspired by Joe Kaminkow of Ka-Pow Pinball and spearheaded by Stern Pinball product development chief, George Gomez, who, along with renowned programmer, Lyman Sheats, brought the game to life.
In addition to the fun title and game experience, the machine features a full color high definition display replacing the dot matrix display. In conjunction with Stern’s new SPIKE-2 electronic pinball platform, the display enables high definition graphics and innovative animations. This enables the game to feature actual TV footage from the iconic series. The game includes a second high definition display on the playfield as part of an interactive game feature.
"We are very proud to celebrate our 30th year in business by making a 50th anniversary Batman ‘66 game in collaboration with our good friend, Joe Kaminkow. Joe, who was instrumental in starting Stern Pinball 30 years ago and served as our company’s very first game designer, is now one of the gaming industry’s leaders,” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc.
Pricing and Availability:
The Batman ‘66 Anniversary Edition pinball machine will be available in Premium, Limited Edition, and Super Limited Edition models. The company has no current plans to produce a Pro model.
In celebration of Stern Pinball’s 30th anniversary and Batman’s 50th anniversary, Stern Pinball will build a Super Limited Edition model. The Super Limited Edition model also includes a one-of-kind art package plus multiple translites, a unique included topper and accessories package, and a high-fidelity 3-channel audio system that is three times more powerful than audio systems of previous generations. I doubt folk will support this, but I think campaigns to Burn a few the SLEs could be instigated in big markets like US, Aus, Europe

Co-op arrangement. Chip in. Burn it in the box. Get a bit of media. Get story out before the games are sold. Livid pinball fans planning to burn games. Stern gets the associated PR. Stern does not know the fate of the games it is selling. May try to get folk to agree not to burn the game. Gets more PR

Plenty of folk obviously find the concept of sle, "invitation only", send a video, justify your validity stuff distasteful

Principles often cost money unfortunately

Or, vote the other way with your cash, and do not buy any version of this game

They are doing this to stay in business... rather have this than no new pins at all.

I just can't get that bothered by this. It's business, extract the most money from yr customer as they are willing to pay. Yeah the whole application thing is bobbins but most of us rarely if ever buy a NIB Stern so if it keeps them in biz, means more games are produced, and more games drip feed down into the used market then good :-)

Its just a market test by Stern. Will the public buy these overpriced games? Probably and if they do Stern will keep putting limited edition theme runs out to boost profits.
" A fool and his money......"

well, he was clearly foolish to make the money in the first place ;)

I do not wish to overestimate the wisdom or capabilities of Stern, but ..

Plenty of folk slag Stern off for dot matrix printing, photoshop art, flimsy build quality, half baked programming, cringeworthy art packages etc etc

A few insurgents have entered the scene now, jersey jack, spooky, heighway, dutch pinball etc ...

I just wonder whether Stern is trying to spoof the appearance on quàlity/ exclusivity to distract folk from its bargain bucket/ data east tendencies

If I was stern I wouldn't be worried about the "competition" - all of them put together don't have the scale that Stern has. So any impact is limited owing to demand and supply (and some need stern to do their assembly too!)

Stern in my view have had a couple of great games recently - Ghostbusters is amazing and walking dead since the code updates is fantastic also. Don't get me wrong the build quality is a concern for me and I suspect will cause them some short term pain (and long term ugliness if they don't tackle it quickly!)
Ghostbusters arrives for me tomorrow and I can't wait!!!

Stern ....Data East tendencies
you probably know this already David, but many won't :
don't forget that Gary Stern *was* Data East, he started it in 1986, he managed it, he sold it to Sega in 1994 and he later bought it back and renamed it Stern Pinball.

sometimes people confuse Stern Pinball as we know it now with Stern Electronics which made Seawitch, Quicksilver etc. Gary and his dad Sam Stern (probably the origin of S.A.M. but never confirmed that i know of) both worked at Williams - Sam Stern was the boss there - until 1976 when Sam retired and Gary and his brother bought out the bankrupt Chicago Coin (?) and started Stern Electronics, operating until 1984. check this out for some fascinating pinball history here - http://www.flippers.be/basics/101_pinball_history_usa.html

can someone explain the Chicago Coin link to me please? - is this the same mob as is still involved in MMr and AFMr etc, or am i confusing them with someone else?

I am delighted that Stern still makes games and it may well be the case that cost cutting/ dot matrix / photoshop/ cheap clear coát was the only way to commercialise this difficult, dying industry.

It is such a shame though that the higher quality Bally Williams business model lost out to cheapo. But many, many industries have gone the same way as the mass market simply wants a cheap price.

Stuff that you took for granted, that lasted for years and years simply doesn't any more. Light fittings, central heating timers, stihl chainsaws, window catches, volkswagens/ audis, 5 lever door locks, that stupid dyson fan that cost £300 and is irreperable, stupidly noisy kettles, taps ... In certain fields you simply cannot buy quality items at any price. And what is seen as a premium brand (stihl for example) is crippled by low quality sub assemblies produced in china

Where I live, I used to drive to nottingham at 60mph. The limit is now 50mph

This latest marketing move by Stern is down to the popularity of Ghostbusters, the LE sold out within 12 hours, and they were then exchanging hands for more than new price, at least in the US.

Stern see this and think, why can't we have a piece of that pie, some folks are willing to pay up to x amount for a machine, so that's what we'll sell them for.

Very smart move by Stern I think, they are not trying to appeal to the mass market with BM66, just trying to get their cut from the people who can afford to buy at pretty much any price, and there are plenty of them out there. (less than 1% of the world's population accounts for 50% of the world's wealth, to some people dropping 15k on a pinball machine would be like buying a packet of polo's to most)

Stern's business is not gong to be harmed by this at all, it will be business as usual when Star Wars is announced, BM66 pricing and playfield ghosting will be quickly forgotten about. If you listen to the podcast by Gomez, when asked how many machines are in the pipeline at Stern, he laughs hysterically and says you wouldn't believe it...

What does Hitler have to say about all of this? We need a new Downfall video!
