i'm replacing the u1/ u3 and u4 ca3081 ic's
on the solenoid/regulator board of a bally vector
the question is u4 pin 16 looks like its not connected
to anything does anyone know if this is correct
thanks for any info
It's tricky to read as the NPN transistors that form that IC array are scattered around the schematic. Saying that I can't spot Pin 16 in use which is on U1 and U3 between pins 1 and 16.
I'm sure one of the Vector club @Nedreud, @DRD can confirm comparing with their machine.
Each of the 3081 array chips contains seven transistors, each used as a pre-driver for one of the larger coil driver transistors (Q1 to 19). This means there are two of the in-chip devices not used. Looking at the diagram, these are both in U4. Also, U4 handles all four 'continuous' solenoids, such as flipper relay, coin lockout, etc.
i missed that on the schematic i was just looking at the board
and pin 16 on u4 had no track running to it,
so no point soldering it
thanks for all the replies
CA3081 is 7 NPN transistors in single chip. For the momentary solenoids all 7 transistors are used on U1 and U3 and just one from U4. Four from U4 are then used for the continuous solenoids, so two from U4 remain unused.
