For a while now I have been looking for a project pin from the 80's but most have either been too good or too expensive.

The along came this: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/bally-speak-easy-1980s-pinball-machine/1023873476

The poor ol girl has been stored in a garden for a long time and is in very bad shape.

But what can you get for £50 these days?

The PF isnt wood. Its some kind of Plastic composite? this means there is no planking despite being out in frost, rain and baking hot sun.

Pretty bright colours too.

I'd like to tell you that with a new fuse and a wiggle of the connectors that she fired up but thats just not true. This is one sick puppy!

Cant wait to see what fun she has in store for me :D

As Sgt Grizz would say - good work soldier :) good catch and looking forward to seeing the progress :)

How bad is the cab? Can any of it be saved or will you have to try and get another one?

The top box is really bad but the main body should be ok.

I will try to keep as much as possible of the original parts. I found a family of earwigs behind the mpu lol

The main part I'm looking for is the backglass. There was a thread on here a while back about a US company selling off 270 pins on ebay. I will try and find this and make contact with them to see if they have one.

A little stickyback plastic and some toilet rolls and we will soon have a Tracey Island lol

Well I had a little play with the power board and the sound board and fitted my Altek multi mpu to see what was what.

Loads not working but she still managed to squeeze out half a game.. With some help ;)

Well today I managed to find a lil time to start on the MPU.

I followed the instructions and video kindly set up by Luke Wells here http://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/video-fixing-a-heavily-corroded-bally-mpu.3113/

Instead of flowing solder along the bottom I decided to use wire as there wasn't any track left in most places.

I will put up the repair pics but if you want but I thought I would not bore you too much and just show my very first repaired MPU :D

I'm still in shock that it actually worked and I haven't burnt the house down!

Things to do:

Find a backglass
Fix lower right flipper
Fix countless bulbs etc
GI string out
Re rubber
Few switch contacts not working
Strong spark from left coil contact.. thin winding on the coil burnt out?
And more besides.
