I found the remains of the mythical Paragon in the corner of a warehouse , ready to be thrown into the trash. Maybe it's madness but I'm going to try to return it to its former glory!
I've always been in love with this pinball since I was a teenager.
Of what remains of the Paragon, the cabinet and back cabinet exist. The backglass is missing and the playfield needs to be completely restored. All electronics exist, including boards and display .
Well , let's begin.....

With experience accumulated over 40 years , we will try to revive this Paragon.
We're going to post images of our progress from time to time.
So please check back!
So far I have already sourced and purchased an original backglass , the stencils to repaint the cabinet and back cabinet so off to a flying start!

The first step was to completely sand down the back cabinet to a lovely smooth finish and fill in any damaged areas and edges ready to receive the painted finish.

Loving this - the work you've done on that backbox is lovely and neat. These old bally are so much fun and it's great that this one is being given a chance to shine again. Keep up the good work!

What areb you planning on doing with the playfield?

Here with the first layer of background colour applied and small areas of filler applied in the corners and edges.

Fantastic, paragon is my favorite game. I'd love to do up another one, so you got a very nice find there.

Looks like you will need a mains transformer - that should be in the lower right corner of the back box, unless you'd already taken it out before the photos?

I have a spare Paragon playfield which, whilst has some wear, is much better than the one you have inherited. PM me if interested. I have other used spares too.

Here we go with the cabinet , same process as with the back cabinet, sanding and then filling where needed ready to apply the first coat of paint

Hi , thanks. yes i removed the mains transformer before the photos were taken. Thanks for letting me know but we are in the process of remaking the playfield. I have many other pinball machines in need of repair and so will pm you about what spares you may have?

Hi,
Thanks for the encouragement, much appreciated!
Basically we use the same digital technique that various Pinball manufacturers now use. We have already carried out tests and the results have been excellent. I'll quickly explain how we replace a playfield
Before the damaged original artwork is sanded down, the image is digitally burned and then digitally "cleaned" and touched up where needed on the computer screen. This file is then transferred to the printer and printed onto the original sanded clean playfield with new plastic inserts as well. Finally a light Clear Coat is applied to protect the new artwork.

When we have our first completely refurbished pinball playfield we will be posting the images here!

Very excited and interested to see how this turns out. Outside of the big playfield manufacturers (cpr/mirco) I've not heard of anyone that has been able print to wood.

We are excited too! This is our first trial in this way printing on wood, glass and plastic in this way. Frustratingly, as is the case with so many other businesses this year because of the virus we are running behind where we thought we would be at this point. But onwards and upwards, We'll keep posting!

That’s a business right there, send a playfield, scan it, touch up, sand, print and clear coat.

depends on cost? if it’s £100 i’m in![emoji2]. a new pf is not too costly. and remember CPR are in Canada [emoji1063] not USA. so no 25% tariff and : import duty/VAT lower than USA was before anyway. !!!!

Labour costs could be kept down too once you have built up your playfield image stocks. I'm sure this would get a lot of interest if successful and (reasonably) affordable.

You're in London @DAW6205? Where abouts? Might not even be a post for me.

Hi Alan , maybe it could be an advantage to buy a new PF from CPR , everyone has a different opinion. For me it is simpler to replace a pf using our process. If you consider these points: - CPR have a list of the PF stock that they hold. If your pf isn't on the list you have to look for another solution. For example the Paragon PF isn't available on the CPR list so you could wait a long time until its once again on the list. Or you could buy an overlay , for me this is not a good solution. Alternatively with our system we can replace the artwork exactly. We can replace every playfield from every year from 1950 up to now. Not for £100 though! When i have a workable cost I will post here on Pinball info!

If this approach works could be more popular than a Pfizer jab, to maintain order I suggest implement a fair alphabetical queuing system starting at V for Vector. :D

Seriously, Paragon is a great game am looking forward to your updates
