The road will be long with this German lady.
Welcome any pointers for bits and Bob's as I progress. I guess first question are the white plastic fixings that's all over the PF. They are.....
And the blue paint, I guess this will be lead based so need full haz chem suited and booted when I repair the head.

Is this because of the lead paint? Out of interest, what era machine stopped using lead paint?
Yes !!
Don't have to use a mask if you don't want too ,but it is recommended to use a high level protection mask such as a FPP 3 , also I have to when I am cutting hardwood etc at work !!
Think that stop using lead in paint in the later 80s :hmm:

I'm going to get a stencil kit from the USA and bite the $63 shipping and customs tat.
So the cab will get a new lick of paint. Thinking of sanding it on a windy winters day and be up wind. I have surgical grade gloves so just a mask then on my xmas pressie list!

Looks like just one plastic slightly damaged. Also some upper playfield wear. I wish that German bloke would print off an overlay!

If you are going to town on this, do remember that you could play the long game. Wait for another elektra with a better upper pf to come up for sale and swap them over in the future .... flog the runt game afterwards

My fish tales was made from two decent machines to make one really nice one.

It's been on my mind. I'm going to re stencil the cab. If another one comes along, I might then use it as a spares queen.

Very interested to see how you get on with the overlays. The top PF is often worn through to the wood on this title.

Had a window of opportunity. The original screen print came off well.
For added stickiness sprayed some adhesive from Screwfix then applied the overlay.
6 layers of lacquer over 10 hours.
It seems to reasonable but we will see when we start playing the upper playfield. I have spare overlays anyway.
New rollover stars too. I was going to have some colour variations on these but availability was the issue this time round. Only takes a minute to swap them out anyway.
I need to draw black around the rollovers too.

A surge of energy so progress is being made albeit in a chilli garage.
The original GI lamp holders are challenging when replacing with retro Comet LEDs.
I got the grill re chromed along with the bar that goes across where the glass comes in.

How much was the overlay if you dont mind me asking. (I may need one myself.. although I know a tame artist so im pondering removing the top PF and handing it to him see if he can fix it :) )

Im looking to get it working before I set about the PF though. All boards appear present.. just need them to work. :)

I bought the last batch over PF overlays if you are interested in one.
Easy to apply but need to protect it from wear.

More progress. New LED displays from Pinball Solutions. Replacement LED driver board in readiness for LEDs. The playfield will be all Retro Comets. MPU and Solenoid Driver installed. Hoping the Talk card works as that's the only original item and I've not tested it.
LEDs in the back glass based on the colour scheme but might tweak once its powered up.
The wedge sockets are really hard to give a little when putting builds in.

PF Overlays ? That a website or something ?

I''m guessing that lamp driver board is one of the spangly new ones - certainly doesnt look like the stock one

@HomerRamone
Guy in germany produced a batch of upper playfield overlays a few years back. I managed to get the last couple from him.

The LED driver is Alltek and needed if you are running LEDs in such an early machine.
I have the original driver board. Not sure what to do with it at the mo.

Elektra now mated.
Ordered Comets from the USA for the lower playfield .
Tempted to get a new mains filter rather than use the original 1982 one.
