Balls stuck in bumpers

So I have an Ac/dc, and the ball gets stuck in the 3 pop bumpers way too long. So I'm just wondering the best way to "detune" them a bit so that the ball escapes from them a bit quicker. At the moment I can launch the ball then go drop the kids of and still have time for a cup of tea before the ball drops out into the lower part of the playfield.

Is it just a matter of bending the leaf switch arms a bit further apart so that the bumpers are a bit less sensitive?

..and to think that I always used to tweak the jet bumpers on new games to make them more sensitive. Open the switch gap a little by adjusting the shorter blade (assuming that jets haven't changed to a microswitch).

Mind you, I'm sure there was a Gottlieb game, possibly Big Hurt, where the player could temporarily disable the pop bumpers by holding one of the flipper buttons.
