This year's UK Pinball Party is going to be very different to previous shows and we're changing the UK Pinball Open format to take advantage of the extended hours and to give everyone more games to play.
The UK Pinball Open will run across both main days of the UK Pinball Party, with qualifying on Saturday and the play-offs on Sunday.
Players in Saturday's qualifying round will be able to choose in which of the two four-hour qualifying sessions they wish to play. The morning session will begin at 10am and the afternoon session at 2pm.
All the players in each session will be split into groups of 10 and will play a single game against each of the other nine players in their group. Matches, machines and play-order will be predefined and printed on individual score cards.
When all games have been played, the players with the most wins in each group will proceed to the play-offs on Sunday. The exact number of qualifiers in each group will depend on the number of players taking part. This information will be be announced once registration has closed and the total number of players is known.
On Sunday, all qualifiers will take part in a number of best-of-three rounds on machines chosen by the players and, if needed for a tie-breaker, drawn at random. The winner in each round of play-offs will proceed to the next round. The loser will drop into the loser bracket to continue playing. Loser bracket matches will be single games played on randomly-drawn machines with the winner continuing. Players in the loser bracket cannot make it to the final, and are only playing for position, with 3rd place being the highest position achievable.
