I've been meaning to get round to this for ages so earlier this week I finally ordered the composite mod from The Future Is 8 Bit for my Atari 2600 Light Sixer and it arrived this morning. My 2600 is in really good nick cosmetically so definitely worth treating it to this mod as the RF output is shocking to the point where I don't want to play it!

I don't think this has ever been opened since the day it was made as the screws were very tight and I had to be careful not to crack anything  With the top taken off I was presented with the below...it still had all the little foam washers that go round the switches :D

The offensive RF module is on the switch board rather than then main board so that was desoldered first.

I then had to open up the RF shield around the main board and remove a few components to be able to fit the composite mod. I didn't take a picture of it but it's basically a little board that wires directly to +5V, video, audio and ground on the board and gives you a red/white/yellow composite output. There's a pot on the board that lets you adjust colour so you can dial it in but mine seemed to be fine without changing anything. I used Frogger to test as that's a game with lots of colours

Screwed it all back together and did some testing with River Raid. It plays great and the picture quality is so much better now, it's actually fun to play!

The power switch seems a little bit flaky so probably needs reflowing and it could do with a clean but other than that it's sorted. The other big job now is cleaning all the carts as some of them just refuse to work....there's quite a few to go through

Used to love River Raid.

I need to find my 2600 now. I got it with Space Invaders combo box and drove my parents made with the noise. Got most of those games also. Great stuff
