Wanted Apollo 13 Hook or Baywatch

I'm just glad Paul passed it onto someone who appreciates pinball.

I'd love one but just no room so I'm just hoping they have one at NLP in October so I can get my fix.

appreciates pinball?

I know I don't tuck them in at night or buy them flowers but I do know what buttons to press ;)

song* This is the pinball appreciation society.....
You're only supposed to blow the bloody balls off!

If anyone can trust me to look after an apollo pinball and not fondle it badly then please get in touch :D

sorry guys, i bought the Apollo13 and Martin has already collected it for me. whoever wants it next can call dibs if they like, i'm not a flipper so i won't be charging any more for it than i paid

Dammit Dan, Its gonna be too expensive for me now. Or will you take 600? :D

Haha, I wasn't suggesting that you wouldn't look after it deathrow.

I should guess Dan won't have it long anyway, you know what the revolving door at his place is like. :p

Dan has not got it too far wrong. There are too many pins and he is not after collecting pins but playing them, he buys, he tries and if it takes his fancy then it will stay. Otherwise he will move it on and move another one in. I will have to get over to his house again to play A13 when it arrives as I can't imagine how mad 13 ball multiball can be.

Apparently there's a post which raises in the middle to ensure the balls don't all drain too quickly. But yeah, i'd love to see one of those in action.

Hopefully Dan takes the ribbing about the revolving door in good humour. To be fair i'm only jealous that I don't have space for more and i'm sure if I did then i'd be circulating the machines I have just the same.

i dunno what happened to the boobies, the avatars stopped being animated for some reason, so i put a different one in and the current one was/is also supposed to move but it doesn't. i'll put Sydney Moon back in shortly. my biggest bugbear with avatars is that they have to be less than 50K which doesn't make any sense to me, as i'm allowed to upload several megs of other pics..... oh well

edit: look < over there < i changed my avatar back but she ain't bouncing. but if you click her, she bounces again. any clever forum software types wanna hazard a guess why, and tell the admins (Paul)

ribbing about revolving doors? no no no, don't be daft, i use the same expression myself. i got the idea from TV's Will Barber, but there are also others that like to try to get through ten titles a year, and as Cal said, it's one of the best ways to get to spend some time with a pin. i sell em on for the same as i paid unless they've been with me for a long time and the market has moved. in some cases (like with Freddy) i end up losing a few quid, but otherwise the revolving door habit only costs me petrol or Martin's delivery fees.

I do miss your avatars ;)

I have lost on all my machines so far but thats life and I have had loads of fun out of it. I can understand you wanting to minimise losses etc.
I would sell mine at a massive profit if I could and not feel the smallest part guilty about it. Supply and demand is king.
The people that don't like the profit margins confuse me, is it because they didnt/cant do it themselves?

You can ask a grand for freddie ind if I felt the price was right then there is nothing wrong with that or making a few notes. Although £600 would be better.

Or is it because they might believe there's an issue of ethics, that takes precedence to money?

In the current climate, yes, you can get more for a machine than most others would value it at.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

If everyone bought machines then turned them over for profit, all that would happen would be all prices constantly rising, thus killing a hobby that is already very expensive and only for the minority.
We are already seeing this happen in recent years.

Keeping pinball accessible to people outside of just those who can afford it by keeping the prices down is more important "historically" than profit turning.
Matt Vince, for example, has sold many machines cheap this year that he could have made loads more money on eBay for, maybe he just isn't being a dick? Or maybe he's making an effort to try and keep the market cheaper in general because he knows that profits *all of us* in the end.

And if "supply and demand is King" then I hope the Kings castle burns.

It's not a coincidence that those who always like to make profit from games are always the fastest to sell off those games they acquired that they "really wanted"

Nothing personal here written to you deathrow, or anyone else. Nor am I claiming to be right. It's just an alternate viewpoint.

The market sets the value, thats just common sense.
What things sell for is what they are worth. You can try and ask 10k for a TOM but no-one will pay it. Logical really.
There will always be a limit/ceiling to anythings value.
As demand increases so does value.

Keeping things affordable isn't the right of a forum member or enthusiast and it isnt ethical either. Its a machine not a way of life.

Hey I know its not a direct attack mate or any insult, we all have an opinion, I have mine and you know what it is and now I know yours.
Matt sells some nice machines. He is selling a robocop for £800. Thats a £500 machine two years ago. could he ask more than £800? probably but I doubt he would get it. and thats my point really.

I dont mind if he paid a £5 note for it and made £795. My only gripe comes when people sell a £3k machine for its full value but have hidden its true condition and have outright lied about it too. A TOM springs to mind.

I have no problem with people making a profit either when I buy a machine or on one I have sold. If I miss a trick then thats my fault. If I am happy with the machine for the price its offered at then its worth the money. No ethics in that buddy.

World would be a boring place if we all agreed and sang girl guide songs around a fire every night. Personally I'd like to play pinball but naked getting a french polish off of a busty nympho maid but thats just me :D.

.

I couldn't disagree with this sentence more. If enthusiasts don't keep things affordable then it won't even *exist* in the future, let alone be *anyone's* way of life. (And whether it is or isnt is not really your or my right to decide)

But again, I'm not claiming to be correct, so no worries if you don't see it the same way.

not just you, dude, i reckon there's a few of us would appreciate that scenario. with beer, obv
it's unavoidable that the subject of prices comes up again and again, and i think it's healthy that way. i can see the points you both are making, and it's impossible to say someone is right and someone is wrong, as it's almost like politics. if i needed money really badly, i'd put my prices up, but i don't. i'm not particularly well off, but i have a job and a car and a bike .... and also owe over £200K to the bank

looks like nobody's claiming dibs on an £1100 Apollo 13 in about 2 months time, so i'll just sell it for £1500 :)

Prices are always going to be a sore point. One of the reasons I don't really follow pinside is that there is a real culture there about making a profit and people desperately talking up the value of their machines. Far too many threads about the value of machines and not enough about enjoying them:(

On paper I've probably made a fair bit on some machines I bought years ago, but it's irrelevant unless I sell up. Does it really matter if I lose a few hundred? Compared to most other hobbies losing £200 in a year is small beer. Probably saved more money by staying at home playing rather than spending it down the pub.

The scary thing is how quickly you get used to high price. Really agonized about spending £1100 on my TAF at the time, now I wouldn't think twice.

I do believe that you're getting your Matt's mixed up unless they're both selling a Robocop... o_O

From what I have read about this seller I think I will give it a miss. Will be shilled to within an inch of its life anyway.

I know what you mean. I've only been active here a month and he's already noticably in the top 3 disliked people in the hobby forums (here and over in the Yahoo group). Although it seems that unlike others his bad rep seems to stem from disagreeable buying/ flipping practices rather than the quality/ accuracy of his auctions or machines.

I'm very interested to see what his current ST:TNG and TZ go for myself. Both are machines I thought would be out of my price range, but at present the TNG is looking to be well below the 2K+ all the "Buy it Now" sellers seem to be asking - Still there's over a day or so to go on that one, so I guess I can't say its over til the fat lady shills ;)

As an aside - That Fish Tales you offered to check out for me went for £975. Not a bad price for a decent one, but not what I'd have paid for that particular example. Thanks again for the offer of help on that one.
