Anyone own a pickup?

I've got a Hilux and thought about this - you often see pictures from US with machines on their end in the bed. On their end on or flat, I think the loading unloading height is the issue.
It's like you need a loading bay either end or forklift/winch.
That said I'm 53 - I'm sure if you're younger you just get some mates round and could man handle it in and out !

I’ve had vans for years, latest one I bought new in 2008. Transit connect LWB which is perfect for work and pins, I’m not working now but still have it. Used it the other week and must have forgot I should have only been doing 60 (goods vehicle over 2 ton) on a dual carriageway when I passed a speed camera van at 68 that I saw

I also have a RAV4 which fits all pins in, loads of room with the seats down and flat.
You can’t beat a van though, always had a van. First one at 19, very handy as it beats a quickie on the front seat of a car

I used to have a L200 warrior, probably about a 55 plate? It was about 2 years old when I had it, it was a double cab and I found and fitted a hard top for the back, at the time I thought it ticked all the self employed boxes, could carry a tonne so classed as a commercial vehicle claimed it under my business etc. I had it for about a year and did about 20,000 miles, but in the end it wasn’t very comfortable it wasn’t very good on fuel, it broke a leaf spring (fixed under warranty) although I could get all the family in, you were limited to what you could carry the back was ok but not secure enough to leave anything in? If you had anything long it either had to go on the roof which is really high, or go through the back window into the cab? So although it was big it wasn’t that useful, it drove a bit like a tractor, I only ever used the 4x4 once in bad snow. So in the end I was glad to go back to a car. I suppose it all depends on what you’re after it for?

Pros and cons with both.
Van has great space, easy to load, longer items no problems and fuel economy is better. Generally a lower spec vehicle and only three seats though.
Never really been worried about the comfort factor being a lightweight short4r5e and rarely go on long journeys.
Will probably try a pickup and can always trade in for a van if it doesn't meet requirements.

If you've never driven a pick up make sure you get an extended test drive. They are heavy on fuel drive like a pig and a nightmare to park. I say it's like driving a HGV without ever putting a trailer on it they're designed to be worked.
Ive owned 3 pickups and numerous vans and best all round id say is something like a crew cab van. I have a LWB transit custom, 6 seats and can still fit something the size of a single mattress in there back
Good advice that I think - I had an L200 as a courtesy vehicle once and it was such a (terrible) difference versus my car or a van - awful suspension and the rear end used to slide out when going around roundabouts. I only had it for a couple of days but concluded it was pretty rubbish.
