Anyone had Chrome pinball legs powder coated?

I have read all over the net, well about 50% of the net, that you cannot successfully powder coat over chrome plated pinball legs. The other 50% say that you can powder coat over chrome.
Anyone tell me the truth ;-) Has anyone had powder coating done over chrome that does not chip or flake off?

Legs for which pin? I'd buy some non chrome replacements new instead.

You "could" powder coat over ropey chrome legs as they will get a blasting. The powder coat needs a good "keying" to bite, the same as if you were painting them.
 
Thanks for the comments. The problem seems to be that it is not possible to just sandblast the chrome off as it leaves a raggy sharp finish with chrome still bonded on. To strip chrome (and the copper/nickel sub base) completely you need to use reverse electrolysis. The powder coater I went to said they could just "rough up" the chrome and then powdercoat in black. I am not too sure how good and long lasting that would be. Graham, did your powder coater remove the chrome or just coat over it???

I may have to buy new black legs... unless anyone knows better.
 
I got some chrome legs powder coated and it didn’t seem to be an issue with the powder coater man. he did it along with a lockbar and some other stuff and it came out fine
 
It may be that the legs are slightly more prone to scratching than powder coated steel. Hard to say really and nothing significant that I have noticed.

I had two lock down bars and eight legs and four side rails done for £200

I actually did the process a couple of months ago and have it on video.

Old Williams chrome legs, shot blasted, cooked, powder coated, cooked then clear coated. They look fantastic.

The file is too big to upload onto this site but they'll do it for you.

As far as I know they blasted them then coated. Had a few sets done previously by the same firm with no issues and mates for whom I'm refurbishing their Operation Thunder had their original legs done a week ago in satin black and they look superb. Hope it helps! I'd maybe see what other coaters have to say, as ours don't mention any problems.

Yes indeed mate, I've just not had time to edit them due to work.

Should be a good one hopefully one tho
