Dunno if this counts as a hint or tip, but the makers of Glo-balls and Back Alley Creation's Black Pearl balls bith suggested to me that you can use their non-standard balls as a way of spicing up machines that you are getting bored with - either because they are too slow or to easy.

Feel free to check out what they said here: http://pavlovpinball.com/an-odd-way-to-make-dull-pins-interesting/

and if you read to the end there's a nice semi-gratuitous pair of legs! Legs and tips: what more can you ask for?

No matter what you do to a turd of a game to try to make it better, at the end it will still be a turd.
Get rid and stop wasting your time, go buy yourself a peach of a game.

I want some of those glo ballz, but the price of them is a bit out there. Does anyone in the UK supply them?
