Mine should be here tomorrow and like you I've got plans to use it as a topper on my RFM. I also thought about my cat knocking it down onto the unobtanium glass. She's never been up on the back box before so I think it should be OK.
If you find your aliens are missing from the windows you just need to rotate the top and bottom halfs of the saucer to line them up.
