Addams Family Swamp Kickout not working and mysterious rubber peg

Hi, newbie to forum so please excuse any wrong posting. I've had a trouble free Addams Family machine for the past 15 years, but when I came home from work this week, my son told me he tilted the machine and a rubber peg fell out, pics below. I've looked at photos and videos and just can't work it out, all I know is the swamp kickout is (just) not strong enough to kick the balls out.

Can anybody please help me with what the peg is, and politely what I can do with it? Many thanks!

It’s part of the plunger that kicks the ball out.

Also, the remaining metal part of the solenoid plunger will damage the balls and they'll then damage the playfield.
