A project pin

Hey guys

I joined up since I've started developing the itch to grab a pinball machine of late and seeing as I like a bit of a project figured maybe I could save some cash and buy myself a fixer upper.

I'm open to pretty much anything with a dmd and any sort of condition really. It'll be my first so the game isn't that important.

Let me know what you got!

Hi mate. Nothing from me but does it have to be dmd. There are some awesome alpha numerical games our there. There's an earthshaker for sale at the mo. brilliant game. I'd have had it myself but can't afford it.

I guess it doesn't have to be a dmd, I just figured those had more to do but I've not seen earthshaker before and it looks pretty fun! Just a bit outside what I was hoping to pay though really, hence the bit about wanting to find a project cab.

I grew up playing the Bally or Williams pins so something along those lines would be what I'm after. I don't mind waiting a bit for it.

Agree .....some of the Sys 11 titles are great fun - the rulesets do tend to be simpler but that is not always a bad thing. Earthshaker is one of my faves of that period.

Nothing wrong with buying a fixer upper , heck most of us on here enjoy fixing them up as much as playing them, just be aware that realistically there is such demand for DMD machines these days that even salvageable projects are getting hard to find, and even harder to find 'cheap' - the amount you 'save' may not be as great as you hope I'm afraid

Well when I say "save" I mean initially. I'm sure it'd end up costing much more in the end but if I can just get my foot in the door I'll be happy to spend a bit as I go. I had a feeling I'd be waiting a while for one to turn up though.

Never mind, we will see what happens I guess!

I appreciate the input too, I'll probably be keeping my eye out for a sys11 cab also now.

Still looking!

What is your budget ?

Realistically it is getting harder and harder to find 'project' pins at a decent price. You prob need to define project also ....if it just means tatty, dirty, needs a good clean, minor repairs to switches etc and a few rubbers and bulbs then that could well apply to many DMD games listed for sale on ebay. Many machines are listed that are basically running but with faults and it often doesn't impact that much on final price ...such is the demand :(

And really you would be pretty hard pushed these days to find ANY dmd game on the bay for under 550/600 . A Popeye went for 560ish the other day on ebay, there was a LW3 on here recently for 600. But those really are bottom line prices.

If you are after something that is missing playfield parts etc then you need to check carefully that those missing parts are even gonna be sourceable. Machines often got used by ops as 'donors' to keep other better condition games running. And some game parts/mechs are like unicorn horns.

And if you are thinking about a game with either missing boards/dmd or faulty boards then you really need to know yr stuff to be able to repair the board - or you are looking at hundreds of pounds to buy new boards etc. By which time you may as well have bought a working game.

If you were interested in older solid state titles and EMs then you actually might have more chance of picking up projects - often see 60s/70/early 80s games listed along the lines of 'lights up but nothing else works etc' . I have sold several early 80s games recently that I just didn't have time or money to throw at them ....they needed board work or new boards and/or displays possibly..... each for 200+ ish.

Apologies if this sounds a bit negative, not trying to put you off , just how I see things at present.

Good luck in the hunt, hope you find something.

I have a couple of machines depending on what size of a project you want.

I have a dismantled DE Simpsons that need rebuilt (bought it that way) or a DE Hook that just needs a bit of tlc

No space and about the same time at the moment and too many other pin projects im working on

Yeah I should probably just state I'm interested in anything late 80s to mid/late 90s.

I come from video board/monitor repairs so I'm fairly confident with that stuff. That's really what I'm looking at. I would probably consider a machine with missing parts if they are obtainable, you never know what will come up later on anyway.

I've been waiting this long anyway, I'm sure the right table will come up :)
