#906 LED flashers for TZ

Going to replace the last remaining incandescents flashers in my TZ with LEDs. Anyone got any recommendations on #906 flasher bulbs? Cost isn't really a concern, moreover don't want it to be too overpowering. Cointaker, Comet, etc seem to sell several different ones going from 5 up to 13 SMDs etc. Will be getting ones that are colour matched rather than white. I have no frame of reference so don't know how much is too much when it comes to number of SMDs, and in particular on TZ.

Everything else in the game including the GI has been converted to use LEDs (no LED OCD board currently, was going to buy one but have heard they don't play well with non-ghosting LEDs, which I presume I have) so don't need to be told that there isn't much point in changing flashers from incandescents.. I want to, it'll use less power, have a longer life, etc.

Only game I prefer LED flashers on is TRON.

Hard to beat the incandescent flasher characteristics.

Saying that, I still use the Comet LED flashers when a bulb goes.

Just mind your eyes with some of these, they’re FAR too bright. I don’t think there’s such thing as a non-overpowering LED flasher, except if you buy the Yellow colour.

Comet do a 5 SMD version which is supposedly not much brighter than incandescent. 9 sounds like it would be extremely bright!

It just seems strange to me that I've got incandescents for flashers only. The GI is LED too so my pin is already pretty digital looking.

I have quite a few mods so figured LED flashers might lower the electrical load too.
 
Yup backbox is LED. Only incandescents I can see are the flashers, including the one under the mini playfield - I don't feel like tackling that one yet, maybe if I get the mini playfield switch kit I'll do that one but that won't be any time soon (I'm still contemplating selling TZ to get a TAF anyway)

Regards dimming - I was considering getting the LED OCD board from Comet too, but if my bulbs are non-ghosting (which I assume they are since I don't get any ghosting) then apparently it doesn't work as well.
 
Unfortunately I'm fairly certain all of the LEDs I have are non-ghosting, since they were fitted when I bought it and don't ghost already.

Is there any way of actually knowing one way or the other?
 
you could try them in a GI socket (backbox easiest), and test the GI dim levels - if your bulbs don't light at level '1' (lowest brightness) then you probably do have anti-ghosting LEDs.

I think the anti ghosting 'tech' prevents the LEDs lighting at very low input levels. They only come on at, say, 15/100% power. LED OCD has a test mech built in, so you can control the LED brightness (as a pecentage) at each of the 1-8 brightness stepped levels. LED OCD on default typically only drives the LEDs to 85% at '8' - which is bright enough. You can go over 100% if you want...

GI OCD has much more accentuated curve.
 
Hmm, I guess I need to see it in action to determine if it's worth the $260 or so to get both boards. It's a shame that Comet only do the LED board too, don't fancy getting ripped off from the Euro suppliers.

it's a long drive, but you'd be very welcome to see them both here in Congo, TZ and maybe Roadshow (GI to a lesser extent).
