It's too big to be a ROM or RAM leg. Must have been hiding behind the rom.

That looks like a contactor from an electric switch. The advice to 'check for foreign objects which could cause short-circuits' probably wasn't meant to include 'take out chips to check for stuff caught inside the socket'. Maybe someone previously used it to prise out the chip, and lost it while doing so.

That look like a pin from one of the crimp connectors. It might be worth removing the headers/connectors in the area above the ROM to see which one may have broken and fallen.
Having said that, it could just be general debris from a previous repair.
