I have a 1999 volvo v70 se 2.4 20v auto with 200k miles.

It has mot to Sep 24 but needs new complete exhaust, has airbag light, engine management light, gearbox can be clunky when warm.

It's just going wrong too often now and I'm getting sick of having to order parts from Germany every few months. I have three other cars so don't "need" this.

I could scrap it and have offers of 150 from a generalist and 200 quid from a Volvo specialist. I've tried a Volvo forum and it generated no real interest

Has anyone experience of selling this sort of "tatty car with issues" on eBay ? I don't want any aggro or folk moaning/ messing.

Thanks

Seems very low that scrap money for a volvo v70.... my gf not long ago got £360 for a pug 307 and niece a couple of weeks back got £400 for a 2008 astra both picked up on a truck from home both terrible condition... you should get a few quotes ... most offer £200 as a basic rate for any car

Edit: Maybe it's more to do with the area as we have so many scrap yards and car dismantlers in liverpool.
heavy cars volvos though! Maybe try listing it few hundred on gumtree or if your on something like fb try a group

A couple of years ago, I had to clean up my brothers estate. Among the junk was a lot of rusty car parts. we listed all the stuff on FB marketplace and had someone willing to pay cash for any thing and everything

Somebody will give you money

My son scrapped an old Clio a few months ago and got £180, sounds low for a Volvo like that.

Not worth the hassle IMO, last car I sold, guy turned up explained he wanted to drive to the south of France and could I guarantee it would be ok on such a long journey...... it was £100.
This was my concern. 25yr old car, well used, every panel scratched in some way, alloys well corroded, needs something like battery/ exhaust/ air con condenser ..... every few months. It's usually 100 to 400 quid a time.

If some geez buys it to whom a 500 quid bill is a big deal ..... top priority is zero hassle

I hate selling something unless I'm 100% sure its fine, if you get an enthusiast looking to scavenge parts, or someone after some cheap wheels to use sparingly as a dog/tip car and scrap when it throws a big bill your golden, but some people have such unrealistic expectations.

It has parts value to an enthusiast or one car owner as a parts vehicle, I’d regularly buy dead cars on eBay for up to 800 purely for parts to repair other cars, yours would be even more valuable as still running with mot which means they could drive it home. Spares or repairs is your get out clause

What are We Buy Any Car, Car Wow, Motorway and Motorpoint offering? Seems to be lots of other similar sites too.

May give you a ballpark figure to work from.

We Buy Any Car gave me £50 for non runner 98 v70 a couple of years back.

Damn thing broke down on the way there and I had to get a tow. At that point I’d have happily just given them the keys tbh.
