Hey guys and gals

What are people doing for pin insurance?

Trying to get quotes but because mine are in the garage (albeit integral to the house and essentially a normal room but with garage doors) the max cover I've been offered is £5000 which isn't enough these days!!

And then I don't know how they'd replace them. Obviously old for new is gonna cost them a lot more but replacing them ain't gonna be easy. Would they just gimme a cheque based on my valuation!!!????

I'm sure this was discussed a couple of years ago and someone came up with a bespoke policy?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Cheers

Does @ianw work in insurance then and able to sort out specialised insurance? I guess the chances of a complete loss (fire/flood I guess are the most likely?!) is almost nil, but the cost if that scenario was to occur would be hideous for some peeps. I'd be interested knowing more too.

On my house contents insurance I need to declare individual items over £1500, so my Walking Dead LE is insured for £6230 with a premium of £20.86.

Yep.

@Spandangler . Home insurance cover is usually reinstatement (new for old) and if so, your sum insured needs to reflect the cost to replace with a new, alternative machine (normally without betterment i.e. trying to get a Hobbit LE for your fire damaged Popeye) plus ALL other contents. Always best checking with your individual insurer though.

That's the problem though, as they are in an integeral garage, albeit a fully insulated, plastered room, but with garage doors on the front, they wont insure the entire contents for more than £5k

My games are insured for £60,000

They are apparently classed as Furniture and so contents. They do have prices for all of the games.

We insure a few people on the forum, both at homes and at a club. I work at an underwriting company, personal and commercial, sorry no car / vans. We have a specialist endorsement to cover them for market/agreed value which removes them the problems of average 'new for old' basis. We extend cover for taking them to shows / events as part of the price. We are aware most are stored in garages and outbuildings so we over ride the usual limitations in most insurance policies
