So last night I made a start by removing the large Path of the dead mod, the movie prop sword and the Pinstadiums as I don’t think this pin needs them helped by the fact I have controlled lighting in my pinroom.
The sword both Gabe & pinmate Jamie preferred it stay but I prefer my balls to be visible and both of these obscured them slightly.
I must agree some balls look better obscured by a large Sword but not on this occasion.
I started stripping the left side of the playfield to save moving the pin as I only had a few hours spare due to the festivities.
Luckily I had a full plastic set for this pin which I found hidden in its belly alongside lots of other LOTR goodies so I decided to fit the LE slings (figureless ones) another way to de clutter the PF as it’s packed enough IMO. Check out the design of the protectors not only were they actual size they had designed in a few nice weak points so the 1st ball hit would break them and unsurprisingly must have.
I make all my protectors at least 1mm oversize and in any areas need extra protection take it up a notch to 1.5. This not only adds more strength but added bling with their Flourecent nature.
I then removed the POTD mod and the path itself and spent 30 mins with Novis to polish out the hazy ball paths obscuring the art below. Polished up the thin metal rails and hey presto much nicer now and this old dog can now see the rabbit (ball) when it enters the area.
oh I also freed Saruman from his chains and locked him in place with a protector underneath which highlights him a little better.
I did intend to colour the rubbers with some perfect play ones but raked out some of my black stash for now and maybe revisit next spring clean.
Today I’ll mostly be hitting the opposite side to remove the original sword clean up and add a few protectors to that area.
