It appears the 1156 bulb in the flashing beacon is a bog standard 12v car bulb. Would an 1156 led used in cars work. I personally can't see any difference only that it should last longer.

When I first had an F14 (1989!) the official bulbs were 14w and were an eye watering £3 each from associated leisure at Burton. Then a friend who worked at a garage showed me that the 10p each 12v car bulbs did the same job perfectly well!
Indeed it is. I just replaced mine with an led tower for a break light. Shines nice and bright and won't blow

yah I got a brake light one in my TNA and works a treat and is visible from the moon.
