24 degrees for London, 22 degrees for the Midlands, so maybe drive up to Scotland where it's "only" expected to be 20 degrees and less of a threat to life.

Stay hydrated people.

Just in time for me to be moving house next weekend. I might be the first person to say I'm glad I only have 1 pinball machine

I'm still waiting for the often predicted ThunderSnow to arrive.
Its on it's way... sometime this decade....

The sensationalist weather headlines in the Newspapers do make me giggle as they are SO inaccurate!

For the heretics on here, a 2024 alternative take on climate from a former C4 documentary maker featuring Nobel prize winning scientists.

Seems hard to believe now but varying opinions were actually allowed on UK terrestrial TV about 15 years ago. A few rebels are keeping this spirit of open debate alive ....

My personal favourite was the "heat apocalypse" we had a couple of years back when it was a bit hot.

Can't say I fully understand the science behind global warning, but many of the measures in place make no sense to me, point out the UK is responsible for less than 1% of co2 emissions and people claim its a global issue, yet are thrilled about forcing heavy industry east, where environmental controls are less restrictive.

The premature end date on ICE cars, that seems to have inadvertently impacted EV's and failing to recognise keeping a little old petrol car running for longer is the most eco friendly option for some.
Our local dump, changed to a waste management centre recently, gone was the ability to scavenge and re use, everything now gets sorted and from what I can see most goes to landfill or gets incinerated. Only metal seems to get recycled, and that was always possible by going to the scrap man.

On the subject of recycling plants, seems a huge amount of unexplained fires, almost as if some nefarious people are charging a small fortune to collect waste, then it 'accidentally' catches fire, before the expensive recycling bit.
The path we are on is going to make people poorer and have little impact, its all about optics...... and money. Improving the environment seems to take a back seat.

You made comment on this heat front and not about climate change...

Now your changing the narrative of the thread and trying to demean people

24 degrees C is a normal British summer - not an 'exploding heat wall'.

The 41 degrees C we had was pretty unusual but, living through it, I was questioning how much of the hysterical writing about dangers was due to poor housing standards (e.g. tiny flats with walls of glass) rather than weather. No sh*t, I actually cycled to meet friends (outside) on the day it reached 41 degrees C of dry heat and cycling through inner London was a non-event.

I was actually almost disappointed when it finished and we went back to the usual 24 degrees C, overcast, with occasional rain showers...

Obviously, if I was a severely-obese 86 year old living in a glass-walled flat where I couldn't escape the heat, I might have thought differently, but poor preparedness by the government when designing housing standards, austerity and too-high house prices, isn't exactly the nightmare heat scenario painted at the beginning of Kim Stanley Robinson's Ministry of the Future.

You forgot to mention that some recycling (e.g. electronics) is sub contracted to specialist firms which export it to China where it's "recycled" by ... dumping it into nature. But yeah those contractors are cheaper which pleases the shareholders. And we didn't know they would do that, honest!

Summer is coming. At last, so get used to the fear porn, all red maps and doom cults out in force.

Hurray for hot weather. Queue Eric and Ernie..........

According to ITV turbulence has allegedly increased by X% since the 1950s due to climate change.

Given the short time period and the even shorter period of mass commercial air travel even I’m a bit skeptical about that claim. How on earth would they know what turbulence was like 100 years ago?

And as for the “exploding heat wall”. It’s bloody cold and wet in London since yesterday 🤬

No, no, no. Cold weather is also a sign of global boiling and exploding heat walls.

2+2 = 5

..... and the latest from Newsnight (BBC, there's a theme here) is that by the 2060s air turbulence will be even more catastrophic.
Is this "news"? I'm still waiting for planes to fall from the sky as predicted 25 years ago.

Because we know the atmospheric conditions that create turbulence, and we do have pretty good weather data from 100 years ago, so you can make inferences.

With very improbable events (like turbulence bad enough to injure people) it is easy to fall into a bit of a statistical trap. Even if severe turbulence becomes three times more likely, which sounds terrible, then the probability goes from perhaps 0.01% to 0.03%. Many things worry me about climate change but I’m not going to lose sleep over bumpier planes

All footy fans should support Spurs. Spurs is doing all it can to prevent future exploding heat walls in the UK - by flying to AUSTRALIA to play Newcastle United.

The BBC reports ......

"We have taken a look into some of the key things Tottenham are doing to become more sustainable:
  • The club are a signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework 'Race to Zero' and committed to halve carbon emissions by 2030 and become net-zero by 2040.
  • They became the first in the league to deliver sustainability training sessions to all players across the men's and women's first teams and academy groups.
  • The stadium and training centre are powered by 100% renewable energy.
  • They have established an ecological habitat at the training centre, including trees, new plants and hedgerows, bug hotels and bat houses, wildlife ponds, green roofs and solar panels.
  • They have locally and sustainably sourced food with plant-based options available across all club locations."
